Ah ok it's in the "all cars" guide. I have one bone to pick:

"216 Servotronic"

Why is boosted steering a standard feature on both Z4 models??? Sigh. I really didn't like this feature on the e90/e92 M3. Also a little disappointing to see this in the sports package:

"2VF Adaptive M Suspension"

I'm just not that into these features.

No, Servotronic isn't power steering.
According to BMW: Effortless agility when parking, light-footed responsiveness and stability at higher speeds: Servotronic adjusts the amount of steering assistance to suit the current speed, enhancing driver comfort by lowering the effort needed to turn the steering wheel.

The Servotronic control unit adjusts the amount of steering assistance to suit the speed of the vehicle. An electromagnetic valve accurately controls the amount of force applied by the steering hydraulics, enabling outstandingly precise steering that suits your current driving situation. Conventional power steering systems, by contrast, regulate the power steering in relation to the engine's RPM. The electromechanical steering system EPS uses an electric motor to achieve the same effect.
Thanks to Servotronic, driving along narrow streets or parking becomes easier as it requires minimum effort to turn the steering wheel. The power assist progressively decreases when the vehicle speeds up, ensuring greater stability, improved precision and smoother vehicle behavior.

It is just power steering. I guess I was asking if it was the active steering which is different. Servotronic is the same type of variable assist power steering that has been on every car I've driven for the last 20 yrs. What BMW of recent vintage have you had that didn't have this? E36? I know a lot of people didn't like the E46's 2001 steering rack but that was fixed in later 2001's.

I don't disagree with you completely I'm just wondering what the alternative is?

The M3 has ///M-Servotronic steering. For in town driving, it turns the car into a Honda Accord. 45 mph it's like a regular 3 series. Over 75 mph it firms up the wheel so the car isn't so darty. I hated it. It's a weird feeling to fire up the car and be able to turn the wheel with a pinky. I like steering heft.

Anyway, I went to Porsche today to look at Boxsters. The new one comes out next month. The prices on the outgoing model are pretty attractive as well.

Again, it is not power steering. According to the ordering guides, only the 5/6 series come standard with Servotronic. The X3 has it as an individual option. Both my X3s did not have it.

Great car! i've owned 2 and may go back after the M6 lease is up!

Nope, E46 had "engine-speed-sensitive, variable-assist power steering"
