I had put a post on about a transmission problem called "Need help with Tranny". I thought that I had a bad bearing in the tranny, then I narrowed it down to a probable center drive shaft bearing going bad.
You will never guess what it was and it did not cost me one red cent. Ya ready?
I got my baby up on all 4 jack stands and went under her hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. I had done my research on Pelican Parts and in my Bently manual and was fully prepared to get in up to my elbows in a major DIY project.
The problem was the sound supressing lining in the tranny tunnel that had over time dropped and was laying on the flex disc. I would have never in a million years thought that the thick felt material of the lining would cause such a metal against metal sound.
I just cut the offending material away and Viola .... no more sound. I was so relieved, I almost cried ... seriously.
See the pictures below. The middle picture shows the offending material circled in yellow and the white circle shows the flex disc being very shiny from the material rubbing it. The last picture shows the area with the lining cut away circled in white with the cross section of the cut lining circled in yellow. The first picture (sorry they are out of order) shows the removed offending material and the areas of rubbing. Note that it had actually worn through in two places.
OKAY. I'M READY FOR THE RIDICULE  No, really, I can take it. I can laugh with the best of them. It really doesn't matter because I didn't have to replace a tranny or center bearing :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
I used the KISS principle and hoped for the best but expected the worst. Luckily I got the best this time
