okay I'm due for my regular maintenance checkup but now I really need your help. My car has been running like a champ for the most part but now I'm getting this really annoying hard pulling when I accelerate to the range of 1000-2000 rpms. It's really hard to explain. When I am stopped at a light and then accelerate the car is just fine at takeoff but then as soon as it gets to about 1000-2000 rpms I feel like something is pulling my vehicle backwards and I can actually feel the car jerk back a little bit. But as soon as I pass that range my car is fine. It only happens when I hit that certain rpm range. Do you guys have any idea of what I should tell my mechanic what to look at?

Maybe the ghost is doing it? :)

Seriously, might be time for new plugs/wires.

Nope, they didn't come out with e46 coupes until 2000, and the e46 sedans came out in '99.

Since no one else had much to say.... I'm not sure why it would be doing that, maybe it's just mad at you. Explain to your mechanic exactly what you just told us, the times it does it, how severe it is, what you do when it happens, etc. If he doesn't offer to drive it around the block to see it for himself, ask him to do that, so he'll have a better idea of what's going on. Hopefully it'll act up when he's in the car, it really is a pain when it refuses to show the issue when you actually want it to. Good luck, hope your mechanic can get it sorted out!

I appreciate all the responses guys n gals. I was thinking that it may be due to my spark plugs since I don't recall when I last replaced them at the moment. But I would think that if my sparkies were fouled up that I would have more cold starting problems and things of that nature.

For some reason I'm thinking it has something to do with the mounts since the pull back is hard at times and it feels like its coming directly from the underneath the middle of my floorboards, that is where I feel some kind of moment.

I actually experienced this similar problem when I last had my maintenance done and my mechanic told me it was just my car shifting into a different gear. I actually had him drive around in the car with me for a half an hour and he said it was normal. But for some reason I'm not buying that as an answer since when I purchased my car I NEVER felt this before. I even had a friend of mine seat in the passenger seat with me and he felt the pulling/jerking also.

Do you think I should change my plugs too? I've had numerous mechanics tell me different stories on this issue. Some tell me to change them every 30k while others tell me every 60k. When do you change yours? And do you think this will help with my problem.

But n e way. Just to be safe I am going to have my mechanic check all my mounts. But unfortunately I can't get an appointment for 2 weeks since he is all booked. So then I will give you an update on how everything goes.

Thanks again for all the input.

i would have to say have the motormounts look at. they are easy to check.you can probably do it yourself, but a mechanic will give you a definate answer.
just look to see if the bolt that goes through the motormount goes up with the engine when you give it a little gas.
also if its the motormount the car would be fine at a idle, but shake when driving.
also if your crusing at 50m.p.h.(or whatever) but put the clutch in and if teh shaking stops then its probably the motormount.
if the motormount is broken the engine should have a little play to it.
hope this helps.
good luck:thumbup:
