IMO...if I lived in an area that had really bad weather and it was to cold to work on my own car....then yes for my daily driver...even if that was my BMW...(not a vert)
Most all those car places use very harsh chemicals so they can remove the dirt, without a lot of brushes...that process on a regular bases is hard on the cars finish and rubbers...meaning window seals and such...over time they break down....That said, to me I feel its better to have the car clean than to let the dirt sit on the car...one is as bad as the other..so its really a toss....I feel that in the spring I can take care of what little harm has come of the car from auto washes during the winter...but if dirt has set on the car it can mar certain areas that in some cases can't be fixed.
Question do you have an area that you can work on your car in the winter...heated garage.

No, no heated garage for me. Just a cramped cold 2 car (with 2 cars) garage.
I'm guessing this breakdown you're talking about occurs over years? I tend to lease my cars (although I own the Jeep) so probably the car wouldn't get to be that bad off during the time I own it. They do generally get a good detailing in the spring though.

In that case you would be good to go...your right most cars that I get for detailing that have been run threw car washes for years you can see the evidence of the chemicals...
If your reconditioning them in the spring and maybe the fall...I wouldn't worry about it!
