I have a '98 328is with the HK sound system. The larger(bottom) speaker I think is blown cause it gets really static when its turned up. Anyone have an idea how much it would cost to replace w/ labor?

If you go to crutchfield.com they can tell you what size it is and you can buy the replacement for it, and DIY. Its not that hard and it will save you lots of money.

where do i buy the replacement from because it looks as if they don't carry the HK premium sound system that BMW uses?

No clue what that would cost for labor. But, it's really, really easy to do yourself. If you're capable of turning a screwdriver, you can do it. Pick up BSW's speakers, as they're by far the easiest to deal with since the door speaker are an odd size. Then, you've just gotta pry off the little plastic covers behind the door pull, use a Torx T-20 screwdriver to unscrew the 2 screws, then pry the door card off from around the edges and lift off. Voila.

Please don't use crutchfield. I don't think a SINGLE BMW is correct on that site.

Hey Halston, I appreciate your enthusiasm for your company, and from what I've read here, it's a great company. I have to tell you though that it leaves a bad taste in my mouth for one company representative to speak negatively of another company. Stick to extolling your company's virtues rather than putting another company down and I think that it will give you much more credibility.

Let me rephrase what I said as I think you are taking it as a negative comment about the company. In the BMW world they don't have the correct sizes or locations listed when you choose your vehicle. I am not saying don't buy from them, they have good prices on most of the items they sell. Feel free to purchase from them, just do your own research on speaker sizes first.
I should have said.
"Please don't use crutchfield for research on what your OEM speakers size and/or locations are".
Just as a sample, I have a 1999 M3 Coupe with Harmon Kardon, I chose that I have factory audio. If I input this vehicle it says I need to buy a 5.25" Front Component set a 4" Coaxial for the rear deck. Unfortunately this in incorrect. The 1999 M3 Coupe with HK would have rear 6x9s in a plastic enclosure. There would be no way to make a 4" fit except custom mounting it after received the speakers. In the front the component set will work. Unfortunately you won't be replacing your 2.5" midrange which is probably blown. The installation note says you will need to install crossovers for the front components. Again, not a true statement. If you don't have aftermarket power then you need to wire the tweeter to the tweeter lead and the midbass to the midbass. The factory amplifier has already crossed over the signal with the built in crossovers.
That is just one vehicle and most of the others ones have similar problems in terms of fitments.
Again I am not knocking the company crutchfield. I was stating to not use their fitment guides for BMWs.

BMW_LVR,
He's helping people out. Crutchfield is very hit or miss with speaker sizing, and since BMW doesn't use normal sizes they often just stick the closest size which isn't usually correct.
I agree about vendors not badmouthing other vendors, but this isn't the same, he's just keeping people from screwing up. IMHO Crutchfield and BSW aren't even competitors, as BSW sells a totally different product. Point it, the guy's right, even if he does drive a car with DTM tips..... (: puke:)

I can totally accept your opinion in that you aren't a company representative. I was not trying to be harsh and hope it didn't come across that way, but it still sours my taste to hear one company rep dis another.

I apologize that I put a sour taste in your mouth. With that being said I won't just 'agree to be nice' or '+1 Crutchfield' just so I don't "dis" Crutchfield. Their website information on the BMW e36 is incorrect. Plain and Simple. It is also more incorrect on other models as well.
As someone who sponsors this forums to not only sell product but also provide support, knowledge, install help and other various items I cannot just agree to be nice if wrong information is posted or linked to. That is not very helpful to anyone that uses the search function or heck even google. Forum post pop up in google and if someone searches 'e36 speaker' and a thread pops up and it is just a bunch of "+1 Crutchfield"... that person is going to not be very happy when they buy what Crutchfield says and it doesn't fit and work.
On a side note... While my DD may have DTM tips my track car has a single canister with a single outlet...

She is my baby. Doesn't get enough use though :(
Thinking about slapping in a larger diff and do HPDE and Auto-X and starting up some drifting. Working my way into instructing at HPDE which lowers the cost as well as doing TT.
