My right headlamp doesn’t light. I scheduled an appointment with the dealer and arrived at the appointed hour. The service writer visually confirmed the headlamp is dead. I waited about an hour after which I was informed that the ECU download did not indicate a problem. So… the light does not light yet the computer download does not find a problem. Ok then according to the computer it must be a figment of my imagination. 2 weeks have passed and we are waiting on parts. We do not know what parts, just waiting. The plan as I know it is to replace everything one piece at a time until the defective part is identified and replaced.
This is my second BMW with Xenon headlamps and I do like them when they work. It’s hard not to recall a few years ago when I could replace a burned 65-100 watt H4 for a couple of bucks in 5 minutes.

Try doing a swap of the actual bulbs between your left and right sides to see if it's the bulb that's the problem or the ballast/igniter combo that's the problem? :dunno:

You are absolutely correct. The dealer could (should) have done just that. The fact of the matter is my dealer is a turd. For whatever reason, they decided to order an "s" load of parts and make me come back again. This time however, I will bring the car in on a Friday late in the day. Get a loaner for the weekend and hit the autocross track, hard. ;)

Whoever that reads the ECU for a nonfunctioning headlight is :gay:

It takes an hr for them to do that, yet, <15 min to swap sides like doeboy mentioned...
