Went to the dealer yesterday looking for some touch up paint and was told they didn't have any (Black Sapphire Metallic) because the labels were incorrect and had to be redone by BMW. Something about the hazardous material warning for California (Proposition 65?). Anyway I need to return in a few weeks!
How much do they (reasonably?) charge for the little bottles of paint?
Thanks,
CalvinH

That's the case right now - you can't get any BMW touchup paint anywhere around here right now.

Thanks Roadstergal. I checked another dealer and he told me the same. They had to recall the entire stock to replace with new product, properly labelled. Seems a bit dumb to me as it would have been reasonable to print up a single paper page with the proper warning information and provide it with the remaining stock (until the next shipment of properly labeled product arrives).
Life goes on ... and smoothly in my favorite drive!

Have you tried BMW Seattle? They had some about a month ago, a friend picked some up for his car. It was $20 (comes with touch up paint and clear coat)

i was there, maybe 2 weeks ago, and they sold me some jet black. they did mention that this was one of the only ones in stock, due to the label thing you mention. I was under the impression that the one they gave me was old, but not sent back for some reason. I paid around $8.

Yes, I was at Concord BMW. Love their show room, hate their prices. Bought my last car there in '99 (used 740iL). They didn't respond to my request on the EuroDelivery 540i6, so I didn't press them.
As for the paint, the issue is for all dealers now. You must have gotten lucky.
I'm still looking for your car in my outings and on the 24 commute (do you do that?).
Cheers,

I haven't gotten a chance to get to any e39 meetings Calvin, i usually am at my office on sat, which is when most things go on. I do take saturday's off for track events occasionally though!
I'm rarely on 24, occasionally to go to a meeting at uc berkeley, at the optometry school. generally, i have a nice 1mile commute from my home to my office in walnut creek, or 12 miles out to my antioch office. I'll keep my eyes out for you though...
I agree with you on concord's list prices, but you can usually get a reasonable deal.

You can order touch up paint on line from www.autosharppen.com. It's a little spendy, about $22 with shipping. But it works well, because rather than the bulky brush, it has a tip like a felt tip pen.

I bought a Jet Black touch up pen from www.paintscratch.com Perfect match and worked quite well. They should carry your color as well.

I bought touchup paint from www.automotivetouchup.com. $10.95 for 1/2 oz. bottle. $4.95 flat shipping rate. They also have the felt tip pens :thumbdwn: for $13.95
