hey out there, so I've got a 2001 325i. I'm thinking about trying to make it like a big m3 or a small 5 series. what I mean by that is I'd like to put either a s62, s54 or m62 in it. I have no idea where to start or if its even possible, so any words of wisdom would be great.

While "anything" is possible, given enough skills and money, the easiest route would be to swap an engine that was 100% compatible, like from a 330i, but would a swap be worth it for the 50 or so HP increase? An M3 engine would definitely be nice, but it would be considerably more complex & expensive. What`s your budget like ?

Yes.

I saw in my Eurotuner a bunch of guys put a 2001 540 motor (V8) into an E36. It CAN be done, but again, it is pricey.

Don't even bother. Sell it and buy an E46 M3.

+1

It's really not worth it... The labor costs itself might push you in access of $6000+ and even at that point it's worth just getting a supercharger if you really want... Let alone a salvaged motor is pretty pricey unless you find a good deal.

Might as well just get an M3 my friend :D

well my budget is kinda up in the air. I'm in the reaserch phase, right now its looking alot simpler to go with the 330I motor and perhaps later on down the line an ess supercharger. but body and interior wise I wanna go all out m3 ha ha

So, what you're saying is, you want the M3 engine swap, the M3 body and interior too? If so, get rid of your 325 and buy an M. I'm pretty sure you'll be happier in the end unless ofcourse you just want to do the project for the experience. E46 M3 sedan!! in that case, MITE46 is your friend!!!

sell your 325 and buy a 330..
that would be the most economical decision.

Same bore. Slightly longer stroke. The M54B30 is an evolution of the M52 series

So if I could score a set of 330 rods, can I re-use my 323 crank and pistons?
