Hey everyone.

I came into ownership of a 1997 328i convertible. It's been great. Lately the air conditioner panel inside the car has been acting up. While driving the panel will cut off power and then a few seconds later come back on. Or, I will cut off it's power and it will come back on all by itself. Sometimes it will flicker back and forth from on to off. If i were to turn the temperature down it, sometimes will cut off and come back on at a higher temperature will different settings than when it was previously on, for example have the auto temp turned off and down to 79 Degrees Fahrenheit and it will cut off. When it returns it will be set to 86 Fahrenheit with auto activated.

Sometimes when it's off it sounds like the rear defrost is on. Also, occasionally the buttons on the panel will not respond to touch.

PLEASE HELP ME..... THIS SITE HAS HELPED ME FIX A SEAT IN THE PAST AND I'M SURE IT CAN HELP ME HERE. Could it be a shorted wire? A fuse?

Help. THanks.

Try this site. It may work for you.

The site above worked for me for a very short time until I got really fed up and sent it to the below website for repair. And ever since my climate control has been working like it should.

there is a known issue with capacitor inside the digital display unit for a/c heat.
also note the default when the unit finally dumps is HEAT.
the above post is very good about just paying for repair.
consider that or e-bay for repair.
or pay for new unit with a bag full of money.

But please before investing in a new or used climate control please give both websites a try. I only paid 50 bucks + next day shipping for my fix and I am sure glad I did. Haven't had a problem since. So if the capacitor DIY job doesn't work for you, please do send your unit to these guys www.bmw-repair.com. I highly recommend them. They answer any question of problem you have in a very timely manner.
