What kind of Hid Kit do I need to get???? Can I buy those~ $40~ $50 Hid Kit from

E- BAY ?? Or shall I get something more expensive????

Also Do I need to choose to same bulb type according to the oem spec? Or can I buy

D2S is the xenon bulb and not a fog bulb www.hoen-usa.com has xenon match fogs for like 29.00 or 39.00 a set, I went with their higher wattage yellow fogs and although they do perform better during proper use they do not light the road up as much as the xenon match bulbs. They are a good company to deal with as well.

Hey thanks for the comment!!!

So you are saying ~ There are no HID KIT for the fog lapms??? Just HID look Bulbs???????

By having a higher wattage~~ did it cause any problems at all???? for example~ like melting a molding or something like that.???

that is correct they are HID "match" bulbs they will not burn or melt anything. the only issue you have when going to a higher output xenon bulb is you actually loose the amount of light they put out. The stock D2S xenon bulbs are 4300 I believe anything over 5K you will loose light. I just purchased 2 phillips 5K D2S bulbs to replace my stock 4300's with but again that is the Xenon bulbs and has nothing to do with the fogs. I would get these to be honest if I did it again http://www.hoen-usa.com/fog.htm, I like the yellow euro look and functionality but I do not have allot of fog that I drive in here in Jersey. I am by no means a lighting expert either and i'm sure others will jump in and correct me if i am wrong. The D2S bulbs I got were these they are not cheap but "supposed" to be the best for light output that you can get.http://www.********************.com/Philips-Color-Match-D2R-p/phi-cm-d2r.htm

you can buy HID kits, the foglight bulb in the 7 series is 9006 bulb. You can get some good HID kits from DDM tuning for around 60 dollars

thanks a lot for all the answers!!!

So if I choose to go for the low cost way~~~ it will be just changing the bulbs~~

And the other option will be choosing the 9006 bulb HID KIT~~ !!

Better go for a shopping ~!!

As far as I know, yes. The 9006 type bulb was used for my 7 (2002) and the HID kit works flawless except the pass. side it blew out once but I'm sure it was my fault the ballast was secured right. But a third opinion wouldn't hurt.

+1 be careful with the cheap ebay kits, not good quality and very cheap

just follow your car manual for best fitment. some cars use h3 for fog light and some use 9006

not every bmw uses the same exact bulb for fogs, i can tell you that definitely

I have checked a few threads on upgrading the fogs to HIDs. I read about plug&play MTEC kits but since I dont want to go to the hassle of ordering overseas, I'm probably stuck with the local HID kits available for roughly USD100. They've got a couple of types, H1, 9006, H4 etc. (My oEM fogs are H3 I believe)
My question is can I use any of these kits? Do I have to stick to an H3 conversion kit? what about wattage? anything I should 'adhere' to, to not throw a code?

I just upgraded my fogs to HID, you could have just replied on this post, instead of bringing up this year-old thread:

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=438616

Get the DDM tuning kit, 35W not 55W since our foglight housings are so small.

If your 7 is MY 2002-2005, you need H3 bulbs. If your 7 is MY 2006-2008, you need 9006 bulbs.

You should also get teh error code eliminator. Then you may also want to buy just the bulbs for your lowbeams to match the color of your new HID foglights.

^ ah so I will have to get an error eliminator and cant just use any off-the-shelf kit I can buy here. Since I dont plan to order from overseas, I'll just leave the fogs as is.. Thanks for the advice.

It should come out to be $70 or so add maybe another 10 for shipping and it arrives next day. Good mod in my opinion
