I had the above unit installed by the dealer this week and already the miserable thing appears defective. With the radio off, the iPod still runs while sitting in the glove compartment continuously. I was under the impression it obviously gets it's charge from the vehicle system but it turns off when the radio is turned off. Seems to me running constantly isn't right. Also the first day the unit played fine but now the right channel is not working at all, I will be returning to the dealer in the morning on the channel out issue but the running constantly is strange. Any opinions on this?

I have heard that the radio and associated items can run 20 minutes after the X3 is turned off.

Is the unit actually on after that period of time?

As far as the right channel being out disconnect the iPod and reconnect. This will eliminate the "it's your fault attitude" Better yet if you have another iPod in the houshold connect that as well. This way you can tell the dealer you have tied other avenues.

Well, I just got back from the dealer. Concerning the right channell being off, A connector had come apart behind the radio. That was repaired. I asked the S/A about the iPod running, his reply was, yes it does continue to run while the vehicle is turned off. Apparently it senses when the battery is critical, that is too much drain then shuts itself off. Who the heck knows if he knows what the h%ll he's talking about. The iPod is now playing fine. My suggestion to all who have these BMW units, check to see if your still runs in the glove compartment. Seems these things are looking for a failure in the near future.
