View Full Version : ES100s have inadequate water evac
I drove them through a terrible rainstorm with huge puddles everywhere and I thought they were excellent . . . :dunno:

You should have gotten ES100s...
Hmm...care to retract your previous statement..? :p I've had the Kumho's on for two days so still going thru break-in. When I do some more driving them, I'll post a review.

You may still be on the release mold portion of the compound. Suggest trying again in about 300-500 miles. Of the many great reviews of this tire (and many employees here have them as well), wet traction or hydroplaning resistance has not been a complaint.

Hey, they are CHEAP :p
I wouldn't want these on the track, but for street driving they are ok. Just suprised at the poor hydro resistance

I've got 2000+ miles on them, shouldn't be a problem :dunno:
They are OK, just not good moving standing water.
We don't get enough water around these parts, but I've never had a problem with evacuation on my ES100s. But the best tire I've ever had for water evac were the Firestone SZ50s.
I drove up to SFBA one rainy December on bald P700z that were really scary, so the 2nd day there I went to a Firestone dealer at a mall in Hayward looking for S-02s (which were new at the time) but they had SZ50s in stock for a decent price. That winter was particularly rainy ('97?) and those tires were fantastic.
Had to give them up when I accidentally want 'off-roading' and destroyed my nice BBS RS wheels . Gave the tires to my brother for his Eclipse, and I got a used set of BBS RX with Dunlop SP8000s which are still my favorite dry tires.

I was driving around 40 to 50 mph and they were really incredible . . .I never felt a tire clear water so well . . . seriously . . .
It is strange that we both had such different experiences with the same tire . .

Better than the S-03s? I've never been so impressed with any other tire in the rain than my Bridgestones.

Yeah. Sustained 90mph in ~1 inch of standing water was fun...So I was told. :eeps:

He is obviously mistaken.
S-03s rule the wet...

I didn't have the SO3's long enough and for the short period I did have them there weren't any really bad rain storms . . .
From what I read the SO3's are incredible in the rain and if Nate who has had both says the SO3's are better then I wouldn't doubt him.
Totally Disagree! :tsk:
well, I guess it is your right to be wrong...

I can't compare to SO3s but in relation to most other performance tires they seem to be pretty damn good.We have very very big thundserstorms here on an almost daily basis and our usual routes have big wear grooves from trucks with lots of standing water. The ES100s cut through with no hydro at pretty excessive speeds.Hydro resistance was my main priority especially since my wife is now its daily driver(Don't ask me how but she just looks so good and smiles so much in it how could I resist). The SO3s may be better but otherwise I think you would have to go to an all season for better evacuation.

Somehow I think your definition of highway speed begins at 3 digits. :)
My only guess why nate thinks they aren't good is that could be one of the below:
a) The SO3's are very superior in the wet :dunno: and he is used to those :dunno:
b) his tire inflation is too low or way too high
c) he doesn't know what he's talking about ;) :p

I've had excellent results in the rain with the ES100's and agree with the Tirerack tests:
"On the road, the AVS ES100 provided competitive ride comfort and noise levels appropriate for its category, and provided real world handling and responsiveness that was judged the best of the tires in this test.
On the track, in both the dry and in the wet, the AVS ES100 generated good traction and cornering power while providing handling and responsiveness that was the best of the three tires in this test."

d) He's doing 100+ in the rain.

Drove through two thunderstorms yesterday PM and this AM. No problems with water evac. :dunno: In fact, yesterday my boss was following me to one of our facilities in said thunderstorm in his min-van and nearly rear-ended me when we exited the expressway because I could brake and decelerate so fast in the wet. Fortunately I checked the rear mirror and accelerated accordingly. :) His comment was that he knew he wouldn't have gotten stopped especially in the wet. :D

getting rear-ended by your boss could be a little bit of a problem
