ATTN: ALL OTHER CARAVAN ORGANIZERS PLEASE CONTACT ME SO WE CAN HAVE A MORE PRODUCTIVE, AND THE BIGGEST CARAVAN IN BIMMERFEST HISTORY!

CONTACT: LEEORSHLOMO@GMAIL.COM

Alright everyone, here's the info for the Los Angeles contingent of the So Cal caravan!
SAME ROUTINE AS LAST YEAR!

-General Information-

The Los Angeles portion of the caravan will meet in the parking lot behind Ross, located at:

13750 Riverside Dr.
Sherman Oaks, CA 91423

at 6:30 a.m., May 2, 2009, the morning of Bimmerfest. We will leave at approximately 7:00 a.m., when the San Diego and Orange County portions of the caravan will be merging onto the 101, from the 405. A representative from the Southern caravan will contact us at a set distance from the merger, at which point we will get on the 101, drive the two miles to the 405 and the two caravans will merge together, becoming one huge, BMW entity. This is the goal, of course you never know what might happen. Regardless, we will all work towards making this a safe, unforgettable experience.

With that in mind, there are things that the organizers encourage and others that are notů

Please be on time- The caravan will consist of hundreds of enthusiasts and unfortunately cannot wait for people running late. If you live far away, please come early and plan ahead in case of traffic.

Obey all traffic laws- We cannot and do not advocate the running of traffic lights, stop signs and any other posted traffic laws. This includes the speed limit. With this many cars together (many of which modified) we may draw the attention of the police. What we are doing is not illegal, but we do not want anyone stopped by the police.

Do not race and/or draw undue attention towards yourself- This includes aggressive take-offs at stops and any other behavior that is dangerous or illegal.

Have fun and thanks for participating! For those curious, both Mapquest and Google Maps were used for these directions.

I posted some crap on an old thread, but here's some more advice from the guy who organized last year's LA caravan.

Definitely try to get four cars to block the freeway and set pace. Mathematically speaking, it will take at least 10-15 minutes from when the first car gets on the freeway to when the last car gets on. There are just that many cars. So if the first cars are going 100 mph, the last ones will never catch up, which is what happened last year. The first cars on literally have to drive under the speed limit for the other cars to have any chance of catching up.

Also, since you're using the exact same info and maps that I made last year, you need to have some people block the Southbound lanes of Woodman, just above the driveway. Stage a breakdown, just be assh0les, whatever. If Woodman traffic is allowed to flow normally, the cars have no chance to get out of the parking lot. You get 1 car out every minute. That will never work. The driveway needs to be constantly flowing, with no breaks.

If you can pull those things off and keep anyone from leaving early, you should be ok.

I was gonna plan for those two things, as well as getting walkie talkies, a megaphone and probably bringing poster board-sized signs for directions and to highlight important areas. Good luck and have fun!

Good news is that early in the morning theres not likely to be that much traffic on woodman. Try this at rush hour and risk gettin things thrown at our cars lol

+1 had all that in mind! it was a problem exiting the lot even though its only 7 am on a saturday... and the freeway entrance was so close. Ill need some assitance which im sure ill have. I can get the freeway slowed down but i need someone to hold off woodman.

I'm coming with the OC caravan. We are meeting up with the San Diego group and then coming up to you guys. We are leaving at 6:30. I'm not sure how we will get to you by 7 though!!! Here's where we are all meeting and leaving at 6:30... 1475 South Coast Drive, Costa Mesa. You can look it up and see what you think. Maybe that's why it didn't work out last year. Our start time is based on the San Diego caravan getting to our area. Hopefully we can all meet up and have it work out. That would be great to get the large group together! I know I did the Balboa one a few years back. It will be fun to meet up with all groups. :)

Yes sir, I'm coming. I know the rules, I've read a lot of info, talked to guys who have been to the previous ones, and I'm not alone. We're actually 4 cars. We won't be late

I read the post on the walkie-talkie channel, (9). Is it possible to tune in using the car's AM receiver? (I don't know if its a stupid question, but as soon as I read post I remembered the "Ambush" episode of the Hire Series, where the bad guys talks to Clive Owen through the radio...:dunno:)
