I have a 1982 320i. Ok, scratch the electrical problem. I don't have my manual yet. Where is the fuel pump located?
I found it, by the right rear axel.

Which one of these is the fuel pump relay? Or is it missing?

it is the black big one attach to the fuse box..and yes you are missing 2 relays.. is your car euro? just asking cause some cars did not use the top relay in the fuse box.. but yours it seems that there was something there.. if you want i will send you both relay that you are missing plus another relay for the fuel pump

Is there a way to test that the fuel pump is getting power without removing it? Or to test that the fuel pump relay is bad?

yes its quite easy. go to the pump and turn the ignition on and put a volt meter on the two poles of the external fuel pump and check for a reading. if no reading the relay is bad. if the fuel pump is receiving power then it may be bad.

noobie here. how to you read a voltmeter to determine that the alternator is charging the battery properly?
