When adding a relay(oem), is there a method of choosing the relay wireing pig tail/conector or are they all the same and you just add which pins you need??

Relay sockets are different but mainly mounting wise. You add
contacts which are available with a wire attached.

Did you get this wired yet? I'm following the same route as you.
I have front fogs that were added. They have a relay added to the side of the fuse box as shown in ron's second photo above. There are two low current wires (for the relay coil) running from the fuse box area to the fog light switch in the dash.
Now that I'm adding the rear fogs I want to follow the same method and use a relay. I would like to add it under the dash. I need to find an easy place to tap a high current 12+ v source under the dash. Anyone know if there is a easy to find 12+ under there?

Under (above...) the lower dash cover towards the leftside kick panel there are sources. Look for solid red wires.

You really don't need a relay for this.
I have mine tied to a hot in accessory, run and start line after a fuse.
Generally, any solid violet wire is prior to a fuse and any violet with a stripe wire is after a fuse.
Since hot in accessory, run and start is an output from the ignition switch, which is fed with a hot at all times red wire, you will find the solid violet wire in this area.
If you tap into the solid violet wire off the ignition switch, add a fuse to protect the wiring from it to the rear fog light/s project.
The following pic is from the setup on my '96 328is. Not the same, but similar.

by the way I am running 2 rear fog lamps.
Didn't want to run too much current thru the switch contacts and cook em.
so you all think the switch will handle it ok?

Bob,
Have you got a picture of those rear fogs? I'm curious as to how they look....thanks.

Finally done with this project. Sounds simple but it took me forever, for one reason or another.
I added 2 small red LED's into the headlight switch/vent panel. there is just enough room for them. Beautiful. Ron would be proud of me! The instrument cluster doesn't cooperate in the fact there are'nt a front and rear fog display. so this is much better than using some unrelated words to indicate the fogs. especially since I have front and rears.
I also doubled the brake lights by adding diodes like ron showed.
I will take some photos once I get my camera back from my girlfriend.
