I run RFT snow tires (not AS) on 17" rims each winter on my E60 550 Sport and switch back to my summer wheels in the spring.
My lease was scheduled to end now, but I need to keep the car on the road longer as, unexpectedly, my new BMW will not be available for several months.
The problem is that, if I swap back to the original tires/wheels, I won't have enough tread left to pass the lease return inspection after a month or two of use. I would therefore like to leave the snows on the car until I turn it in.
I know that the composition of snow tires makes summer heat bad news. Is that just because of accelerated tread wear (which I don't care about on the snow tires), or are there significant handling or safety issues that I would need to consider if I ran these tires into mid summer?
