I did a search but found no help in removing the rear Speakers. Can someone advise? I'm prepping the car for RSM Replacement. Thanks.

pretty easy, just remove the grill (be careful not to break the plastic tabs) and then there are like three screws that hold it in, just get a short philips screw driver and you will be fine

YUP :D.

But then there is a clip on on side and a bracket on the other to prevent it from falling after unscrewing them. All you do is bend the clip in and it should just slide off.

Thanks, removed the Speakers with little effort. Removing the surrounding panels was another issue but I got them out without damaging them. Can't imagine they will go back in easily. Sure would have been nice if those German engineers had just designed in a removable cover to access those RSM bolts.

Glad you got it out without breaking much. I had a hell of a time with the little plastic tabs wanting to break.

As far as I can tell, I broke one tab on one Speaker Grill and one on the interior panel. Looks as though replacing the RSM's is an easy job.

Yeah, it's not bad to replace them. It's getting everything out of the way to get to them that's the problem.

BMW designers really should have designed in a removable cover. Is there an aftermarket retrofit available?

since we are on topic about speakers, I removed my rear shelf to re dye it and today when I was driving my sound cut out almost all the way maybe 80%, The sub was still getting power but there was no other music coming out of my speakers. I later turned a corner and they came back on. Any Ideas?

Sounds like you knocked the connection to the amp loose. You probably pulled on the wire harness a bit too much and left it just barely in there.

It's ok to break tabs. Go ahead and break them all. Just use Mighty Putty and Crinkle Paint and you're as good as new.:thumbup::thumbup:

so like the guy who started this thread, my back right speaker is blown, and i want to replace it with some good maybe 200-400 watt speakers, except i have no idea how to take them out, and i have no idea what you guys are talking about in that discussion about grills and screws, all i know is that the two black plastic panels pop out when you twist the nobs and i didnt want to try unscrewing anything without advice first, does someone have slightly more detailed instructions? no offense to whoever gave the first set of instructions, maybe im just not that bright =)

and ive looked through at least 20 sites and not a single one has a proper explanation, all i found was a freaking wire diagram and sites that ask for $2.00 paypal donations

Sometimes we attempt to make something far more complicated than it really is. Happens to us all.

haha thanks yeah i know how to take the grill off that was easy, but i havent tried taking out the speakers yet cuz im debating between just getting 4 inch replacements like maybe alpine's or kenwoods, or if i should get my system completely rewired with something like sony...the latter could be a lot more expensive and a lot more work, but do you guys know how to take the speakers in the doors out?
