View Full Version : Problem Already?

My ZHP has barely been in my possession for a couple of days and it seems like I've encountered my first problem. I was driving home on the highway when there was a sudden loss of power, pronounced rumbling sound from the exhaust and the "check engine soon" light came on. I immediately pulled off to the side but these conditions persisted until I turned off the ignition and turned it back on in less than a minute. I thought that was just a one off event until it happened after dinner a couple of hours later. This time also these conditions persisted even idle and there was a clunking sound coming from the engine compartment (as if something was loose) I turned off the ignition and started it back and that cured the problem again. I'm going to try to have the car looked at ASAP but in the meantime has anyone experienced similar problems? I've been really enjoying my experience ths far and hope this doesn't ruin my first BMW ownership experience. It'll really be a shame if this car which is getting a lot of looks already has major problems.

The highway incident you described hasn't happened to me yet, but I still get the occasional car-is-about-to-stall feeling from the car while waiting at a stop light.

That doesn't happen to me and also the problem hasn't repeated itself since the second time (fingers crossed). I called the service department and was told it was either one of two things; bad batch of gas or fuel cap not properly shut. I think it was the later because I recall fidling with the fuel release inside the trunck not knowing what it was. All the same, I'll definately have your car looked at regarding the problem, it could probably be the iddle speed set too low.

Never determined the cause and it never happened again. Sorry I couldn't be helpful.
Happened to me once too, when the car was brand new. Never happened again. :dunno:

Okay, this happened to me on a few occasions. The difference is, my car had over 60,000 miles on it when it happened. Turns out that my coils were going bad. They replaced two bad coils - problem solved. About a month later, it started again, a 3rd coil was replaced. Car has been driving fine since then. Three more coils to go...? lol
