O.k, gang, I've been sensing some concern about the weather, and as a veteran of 9 previous Springtime Bimmerfest events I would like to make my official prediction for this year's event.
For those of you who have been following The 'Fest since 2000, you know that it is not at all unusual for us to be threatened to receive some precipitation. However, we have never had a problem the actual day of the event.
Here is a brief historical summary of the event:
2000: Bright and sunny day
2001: Heavy, heavy rain day/evening prior to the event. Forecasters predicted Saturday would be a total washout. At midnight, I took a jaccuzzi and sat there is a downpour, the whole time thinking, "Sh*t, Bimmerfest starts in less than 8 hours." I went to bed at 1:00 am and it was dumping (lasted all night) I awoke and drove to Cutter Motors at 5:30 am, and the clouds parted. The rain stopped. And Bimmerfest 2001 (the first with a cool lineup of vendors) went down without a hitch under bright and sunny skies.
2002: Great, sunny day.
2003: Doom and gloom weather predicted all week. Rain fell on Friday evening at Cutter Motors as I worked to clear the lot. The day was overcast but nice and was a great success. My last Bimmerfest as General Sales Manager of Cutter BMW.
2004: Our first post-Cutter show. Without the venue and funding that Cutter provided, we weren't even sure we'd be able to stage an event. The temperature was close to 100 degrees on the asphalt of Earl Warren Showgrounds. It was too hot!
2005: Nice day. Returned to Santa Barbara Auto Group (Cutter's new owner) for one final hurrah. Perfect weather, great event.
2006. Back to Earl Warren. It rained all week leading up to the show, and rain was forecast all the way through the event. The skies cleared up for us as the Bimmergods blessed us once again...
2007: no weather issues since moving event from April to May
2008: no weather issues since moving event from April to May
2009: It's going to be great. The low pressure system that will be sweeping through will drop some rain which will clean up the air for some perfect photo-taking opportunities. Rain will fall (less that .25") and will stop prior to sunrise prior to the event, leaving us with partly cloudy skies, temperatures in the mid-to-upper 60's and 15 knots of wind in the afternoon. Bring a long-sleeved t-shirt, and you will be just fine.
