Can somebody tell me what differences there are between a 2004 and a 2005 e46 m3? I'm planning on getting an m3, but wasnt sure if there are any tecnhology differences between the 04 and 05 models.

I don't think there is a difference. Just google up the years and check what's included in the packages.

All 05's had the same suspension, competition package or not. In theory softer springs stiffer shocks. The Competition package added a different steering rack which was quicker and better brakes, and a less intrusive traction control as well as some alcantra in the interior with a steering wheel that did not have other controls like phone and stereo. There may have also been electronic differences.

If you are tracking neither brakesz are good enough and for the street they are both fine, that leaves for a street driven car the better steering rack of the competition package.
