I convinced a very good friend of mine to test drive the mini (I've never even driven one, but oh well) and now he's hooked. He's 95% sure he's going to buy one (MCS) and he's looking at the sport package. I thought I had read on the board that some of you enthusiasts had opted for the sport package (including the larger wheels) and regretted the decision, although I can't seem to find any of those posts now.

Can someone pls point me in the direction of those threads/posts or remind me why you would have preferred staying with the 16" all-seasons? Thx.

the big con for the sport package is the 17 wheels.

While I think they are the best looking, they are extremely heavy.

I thought it was something like that? What was it, a total of like 50lbs more with the sport rims?

Can you order the sport package w/o the sport tires? Or, can you order everything else (whatever that means) that comes with the SP a la carte, and keep the stock run-flats (I assume they're run-flats)? Is one giving up any significant performance edge by keeping the stock 16's?

Just about everything on the MINIs can be ordered a la carte in general, but check miniusa.com's configurator. The advantage of the 17" wheels is that they're 7" wide compared to the 6.5" width of the 16"s. If the concern is really about performance get wider wheels aftermarket along with better rubber.

what he said.

all MCS's come with runflats--but with the 17" wheels you get to choose between performance runflats or all season runflats.

you can get the 17" wheels without getting the sport package

Thanks for all the insights guys--I really appreciate it.

I've linked my buddy (Patrick) to this thread and I'm sure he'll appreciate it too.

Well, my buddy read your comments (thanks again!) and purchased an MCS from Annapolis mini earlier today.

I don't recall all the specifics, but he somehow got the price up to $26k. He was thinking about the NAV, but didn't like the way it moved the speedo to the steering column AND apparently it's a square (no big surprise there) shape, amongst a bunch of circles (he's kind of anal that way). He was going to get blue with racing stripes, but then decided he might grow out of the boy-racer look in a few years (he's mid 30's already), so I think he's getting gray/black.

In any event, thanks again for all your input. And Patrick thanks you too.
