We're now stocking Ron Stygar's wheel pins. $22 apiece. We are calling them "S3 Wheel Pins" for personal reasons. They work great and are very high quality pieces. Much nicer than the drift pin that comes with some models. They fit all BMWs.

Sales pitch over.

How do you keep the wheel on without a lugnut? :dunno:  :p

Looks sturdier than the rather cheapo $7 Mercedes one that I got.

So you just thread this thing on first and use it as a guide to line up the wheel to the lug holes on the rotors, right?

I may get one. My left ring finger is still sore from having dropped a wheel and getting caught between the spokes and the rotors. The tip of the finger has some spots of dried blood trapped underneath the skin. :(

Yes. I admit when I first heard of them, I thought they were lame. But at the end of a job you are usually in a hurry or tired, and that's when you do something stupid. They are nice to have around.

Will this fit in the empty slot in the E46 tool box?

My question exactly.

They are 1/2" diameter. Not sure what size the open slot is on an E46 so I can't comment if it fits or not. I keep one in the pocket of the Oil Baggie in my car.

I highly doubt it. The pin is really skinny, much smaller than 1/2" dia.

I have one of these in both of our E36 toolkits. I can't recall if my former E46 had one or not.

Bavarian Autosport lists that thing (it looks identical, anyway) as a spark plug wrench pin. :dunno: Anyone know what it really is?

It's the same thing. It's intended to be used just as Ron's tool is, to assist in lining up your lugs when mounting your wheels. That is the factory pin. Ron's in obviously better.

I also concluded some time ago that BavAuto is a bit confused.

It actually is also a spark plug wrench handle. If you look at some of BMW's older spark plug sockets, there is a hole at the top to stick a handle through, and this pin is what you're supposed to use.

It IS a spark plug tool! My E30 had a round spark plug tool with two holes on the top part, and this tool goes through the two holes so that you can turn the spark plug tool around and unscrew the spark plugs. Of course, it also serves as a wheel pin. But that was not it's original design!

It does not matter for HACK, he can do something .... ummm, silly, shall we say.... at any point during a "job," such as crushing my fingers with a rubber mallet at the beginning of his brake cooling duct install. :tsk:

LOL, you have to wait until Saturday. :D You're lucky you don't have to wait an extra week (when I was actually going to drive my car). I'm making a special trip to my car just to put the LeatherZ silver wheel pin of power in the car. :bigpimp:

Update: Does not fit into the tool box. Too narrow. What I did was wrap it in a paper towel to increase the thickness, and it fits snugly in the tool box now.

Crappy pic attached.

You do realize that this space is for the spark plug wrench, not the wheel pin, right?

Yes, but that's the temporary home until I get a spark plug wrench. Then I'll have to fashion some sort of custom bracket for the pin. :eeps:

I finally had a chance to try the LeatherZ "S3 Wheel Pin" on Saturday. I give it 2   . Changing my wheels could not be easier... hanging the wheel on the hub took seconds, and no swearing involved. :D

Definitely worth it! BUY ONE! :D

Just picked up my BMW Wheel Pin at my local dealer, The BMW Store in Cincinnati, OH. $3.81 with tax and BMWCCA discount. Why doesn't BMWNA include this in the car in the first place? It was in my E36 M3.

I decided to skip the Spark Plug Wrench for $24 ish. Otherwise, toolkit is not full, including the key for the wheel locks.

Thanks to all for the heads up on this minor but timesaving tool missing and the part numbers for the E46 version. Looks just like the one from my old M3.
