Can someone please direct me to the link for safely removing bird poop from my car. I've tried searching but keep coming up empty. I don't know what I'm doing wrong in the search because I remember the reading the post not too long ago.

But anyway here's my problem. I recently clay barred and waxed my car and now almost 3 weeks later I am seeing the residue of the bird poop all over the hood and trunk on my car. It sort of looks like little spider webs. I just went to my mechanic and he tried to remove it with 3m rubbing compound but it didn't work. He basically told me it is too late to try to get rid of it because it looks like it already penetrated the clear coat. His only recommendation was to respray the hood and trunk.

But I remember you guys recommending a few solutions to this problem.

So if you can be kind enough to send me the link I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks again.

I have absolutely no idea if this would work, but if its a smallish spot you could try to McGyver it out!! Get a an old glass jar or something, put some rubber around the rim, fill it with warm water, and then try to flip it over (while retaining as much water as possible) and seal it over the bird poop spot and let it soak out the bird poo juices (rubber seal to seal, ohhh yaaaaa). Like i said, no idea if this would work, or even is a good idea. it just popped into my head as i was reading ur post and i figured what the hell, might as well share it haha.

:lmao: Give us a DIY with pictures please Prince. I'd love to see that..... Try it on lovebug guts too while you're at it.

OP, how old are the stains? A compound should get them out.

The stains are approximately one week old. And the etching is now quite noticeable :(
Should I go pick up maybe Meguiars Scratch X? Do you that would work?

Or should I try the 3m rubbing compound again?

Yes!!!! Be sure to do it with the lovebugs too, those things are pure evil.

I've never used their ScratchX for bird scat, but you could try that and their new(ish) Ultimate Compound. I grabbed the bottle and it says on the back that it works well for "Oxidation - Scratches - Water Spots - Blemishes".... The only evil that I've battled with it is lovebugs, and it only works on the fresh carcasses, not ones that have been baking for weeks and weeks. It DID get some that were a bit over a week old out though, so it may help.

HI,
In my experience if the Bird did it while the car was very hot or got very hot after, then
the damage is there for good. That spider wed look is the sure sign of damage.
The best you can do is to level the damage with compound . Don't park where birds
can do this on a very hot day. Must be cleaned immediately or else.

They are actually flies, but the Wiki explains them better than I can:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovebug

Pay particular attention to the part about their bodies being acidic. That is the understatement of the year. They will eat the paint off your car in about a day if left unremoved. We are currently in the peak of the Spring lovebug season.

Yes, I wasn't exaggerating (for once) about the lovebug evil. They literally swarm us, and one day's drive on the interstate in peak lovebug season can end up making your car look like one giant, fuzzy, leg and gut fest. You have to scrub to get them off, and not just with water. I use dryer sheets then wash off with normal car wash. The damage to my front end on the Celica from lovebugs is actually what caused me to get my first paint job on it.

Ken you'll find this amusing: years ago I was at Ship Island at the fort and there was a huge swarm in the courtyard.... A tourist group of kids were all ducking and screaming acting like the lovebugs were going to eat them or something. That's the best experience with those stupid bugs I've ever had.

:bustingup

Wish I had seen that!

I have one of those smoked plastic "Bugflectors" on my Blazer. It works really well. I've never seen one on a Bimmer. It would look awful (I think) but down here in "Telephonebug land" it would be worth the ugly a few weeks out of the year.

Telephonebug you ask? Yup. Someone told me "they called each other, and nobody was home, so they's hung up!" :yikes: ;)

Do they even make those for BMWs? I have the leather bra.... but it looked retarded on my car and I wouldn't want bug innards all over it anyway so its stuffed in a closet for safe-keeping. I just try avoid the areas that I know are bad, or just take the Hitler wagon instead.

Telephonebugs? Hahaha, that's cute!

I don't think they've made a Bugflector for a BMW...yet. I've never seen one, but I did see an E36 with a bra last weekend. UUUUUUUgly, but like the Bugflector, might be worth putting up with it. I certainly knew why they had it on. It was covered with lovebug parts.

OP, if the weblike stain is in the clear coat, there's no way to get it out that I'm aware of.

heidifleiss

Yes I'm afraid it might be through the clear coat, well at least that's what my mechanic claims. I don't know how because I am very anal when it comes to my car and as soon as I spot anything on my car that doesn't belong there, I immediately wipe it off. I have a box in my trunk specifically created for any emergencies that may arise while on the road. But the unfortunate thing here is that I was sick in bed for a week with a bad case of the flu and couldn't make it out the door to even check up on my baby. And then when I did get to her she was covered in bird poop. I just wanted to cry. I, however, did not think that the poo would cause permanent damage but I guess it did since the poo is very very acidic. :(

Well for now I will not give up. Over the weekend I will begin my treatment with the rubbing compound and polish. Hopefully doing this over a period of time will at least help to lighten the etching.

I would hit it with dawn soap, clay it and then start the application of compound, wax and polish.

I had a terradactyl size poop on my truck that sat for a week at my lake house, I could not get the "spider web" out for the life of me until my neighbor stripped my hood with dawn soap, clayed and then went throught a wet sand to finish polish and all the steps inbetween. you would ever know it happened.

Good luck to you.

your machanic is right it is ****ed, you need to strip the whole panel and have it repainted to fix it, i deal with this alot at work, usualy uneducated females that have no idea how strong the acid is that comes out of birds butts lol.

and they also love the scouring pad to try and get it off .

cheers scott

Prevention probably the best method.

1:Invest in a Flak gun.
2:Go to nearest flock of gulls.
3:...

Little barstools that they are.

go to walmart and pick up this stuff called "Scratch Out". its in a yellow bottle in the car aisle. i had about 453,765,708 scratches all on my car and this helped suprisingly well. if it doesnt take the scratch completely out... it as least cleans the dirt out so the blemish is the same color as the car. good luckk

Great. Glad to hear this. My mechanic actually recommended Scratch Out to me a while ago to get some faint scratches out but I just never got around to using it.

I will give this a try over the weekend along with the other remedies.

Thanks for the heads up!

I wouldn't say it's toast yet, try a few things first before you just say its a goner. I'm just throwing this out there, but "mechanic" does NOT equal body shop guy. Go to your local paint supply place and chat them up, they may have some super industrial voodoo magic stuff they can sell you. They recommended some really kick*ss stuff for me to get embedded water spots off my windows that happened to work wonders on the trim's discoloration/mildew/cr*p, neither of which I could get off for a good few months of using all sorts of other products.

sorry, i had to re-read that. there for a second i thought he met up with an 80's band at the bar...

anyway, i thnk the claybar will do some good. have you consulted with a detail shop for their input?? i have seen amazing things done to the cars. i could divulge some info, but then the blackhawks would come down hard and take me away...

Yes, I did try the claybar, it lightened it slightly. But over the weekend I'm going to give it a shot myself and then if all else fails, then I'm on my way to a detail shop. But the thing is I don't know of any professional ones around my area at the moment. I am going to have to ask around. Unless someone in here can recommend me a really good detail shop in the Jersey area. If so, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I'm thinking of finding a new mechanic. Anyone know of a trustworthy one in North Jersey?
