sometimes when it is really humid out or raining hard my car will sputter and backfire at idle until it warms up. it also pops and stuff when first accelerating. once it warms up though its fine. any ideas as to whats causing this?

on a day like that just let your car sit for 1 min and gradually hit the accelerator to 2-3k rpms to warm up the engine. These cars are known to not start up well in cold or hot weather so just be careful on it.

Do NOT gas the car while it's sitting like that. That is horrible for your engine, FYI.

77vetteguy, a dumb question probably, but when's the last time you changed your plugs? The reason I ask is that my Camry did the same thing for some time until I discovered one of the plugs was foul.

Does sound like an ignition problem. Cables and plugs should be the first and cheapest thing to check. As the rubber on the cables deteriorates the effectiveness of the electrical transfer to the plugs can become grounded elsewhere through the rubber. And don't rev a cold engine that just doesn't make sense.

i changed the plugs last year. but the thing about it is the engine runs fine any other day of the week. it doesnt always act up when its raining either.

plugs are typically a 10,000 mile item. if you drove more than that in the year it may be time, pull them out and give 'em a gander.

I HIGHLY suggest seafoaming your car, completely (you will need to do an oil change and change your fuel filter if you do the seafoam completely, but trust me, its worth it, times ten!). Its really really simple and easy. there is a great guide on the ls1 forums on how to do the complete system cleanse (fuel tank, oil, and crankcase (( you can even take it a step further and get some seafoam deepcreep for your throttle body, which is also a great idea!)) ) and also a good video on youtube on how to seafoam your bmw's crankcase (search for something like "how to seafoam 325" i think)

at 8 dollars a bottle, its too cheap not to do. your car will love you sooooo much. here is a video of me doing the funnest part of the seafoam, the crankcase. I don't think the sound works, or its really freaky (taken from cell phone).

OH maybe a bried description of what seafoam is would be good, lol. It is a carbon build up and over all system cleaner for parts of your system that get it bad and are often neglected.

I'd wager a gentlemens bet that seafoaming your car fixes this problem and gives your car new life you never knew it had :)

Is Seafoam really that good? I might do it to the engine I just swapped in after a few thousand miles. My buddy is a master tech mechanic and he says good and bad things about it.
