So as I'm browsing photo's of peoples cars and what-not I seem to see that a lot of your parents also have BMWs. So I'm wondering...

This Poll/quiz thing is for e36 owners who still live with their parents or have just recently moved out.

1) What kind of car do your parents drive?

2) Why did you choose to buy a BMW and did it have anything to do with the above question?

3) Did you pay for your car with money YOU earned?

4) Do your parents pay for insurance?

I'll go first.

1) my dad drives a 1998 Ford Explorer V8 and my mom Drives a 2003 Toyota Echo

2) I've always loved BMWs, I don't really know how I first got into them but I've wanted one since I was very small. And no, my mother owned a BMW back in the 80s but besides that they mostly adhere to more reliable vehicles.

3) Yes and No. I was prepared to but my dad gave me an old Geo Metro right before I bought my Beamer and I sold that and put the money towards fixing up the BMW.

4) Yes.

How old is young? I'm assuming if your answers to question 3 and 4 are yes and no respectively then that's too old to be a young E36 owner?

Ill pitch in

1. Dad has an 01 Toyota Avalon and Mom got an 07 328i (lease tho :()

2. Passed by this offer randomely and thought it would be dope to ride in style :bling:. My moms car had nothing to do with it.

3. I bought half of my car, and pops payed for the other half as a gift.

4. I used to pay for my insurance until I got laid off :(, and thats where all mods for my car stopped . Now my dad pays for the ins.

1) What kind of car do your parents drive? A 2007 Honda Odyssey. : puke:

2) Why did you choose to buy a BMW and did it have anything to do with the above question? I chose my current car (95 M3) because I loved my 94 325IS so much. I bought the 325IS on a whim. I was actually looked for another Nissan 240SX, which would have been my 5th.

3) Did you pay for your car with money YOU earned? Yep.

4) Do your parents pay for insurance? Hell to the no.

I'll play your silly game.

1) What kind of car do your parents drive?

- Mom drives an 06 VW Jetta sometimes, but that one I am ashamed to say, I picked out for her. Its ok though, because I've put 9/10s of the miles on it, and since I hate it, it gets put through hell. My dad? IDK, nor do I care. Mom will be getting an E46 pretty soon, however.

2) Why did you choose to buy a BMW and did it have anything to do with the above question?

- Have always loved the lines and respected the performance and engineering. Seemed a great choice for me. I was right.

3) Did you pay for your car with money YOU earned?

- The insurance vultures payed for it. The car before that I um, appropriated?, when I had my mom buy her Jetta. Took over the payments for it. The car before that was a gift from my parents for getting into the high school I went to (yes, an achievement, look up LSMSA if you want to know) and sold because I realized Fords suck and was tired of a lawn ornament that I never wanted to drive.

4) Do your parents pay for insurance?

- No, it's in her name to keep the price low though.

I used to be on the various 240 forums a lot, but not in a few years. Although the various forms of Nissan 240SX are extremely fun and excellent sports cars, I've lived, breathed, and bled Blau Mit Weiss since the first test drive of my first Bimmer.

I'll put in the answers for my daughter, since the 318is is her DD, and she didn't want to post here herself:

1) What kind of car do your parents drive?

Dad drives a '95 Blazer, mom has a '95 Villager van

2) Why did you choose to buy a BMW and did it have anything to do with the above question?

My dad and I went to the neighbor's used car lot/body shop after I graduated from college and I was commuting to grad school 300+ miles a week in a ragged old '91 Grand Prix that was on it's last legs at over 350K miles. Dad fooled me into thinking I was getting the van, then took me inside the body shop where the BMW was getting some minor body damage repaired. He asked "how'd you like this one?" I freaked out! I never thought I'd have such a cool car.

3) Did you pay for your car with money YOU earned?

(Dad's answer...danger, bragging on daughter alert!) It was a gift for graduating with a 4.0 GPA through all four years of college. She had a 4.0 all through high school, college and now grad school. I wish I had been as smart and motivated at her age.

4) Do your parents pay for insurance?

Yes, until I'm done with grad school (MA in History next fall, and then maybe a PhD) and get out on my own.

My dad 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My mom 98 Pontiac Transport Montana.

I got mine half because I've always loved BMW's. They along with 300zx's were actually the first car I ever looked up when I started searching to buy a car. Also my neighbor (Girl 20ish) drove an Arctic Silver 98 M3/4 that I fell in love with. I always said to myself when I'm 30ish I'll have a BMW like that. Guess it happened a bit faster. It did have to do with my dad a bit though. I started looking at 300zx's and 3000gt's which he refused to let me get. Than I showed him the 328is and he said we'll check it out tomorrow...

Yes, I bought all of my cars so far. Aside my parents gave me a thousand towards the Avus M3 that I had cause they felt bad someone had hit my 328is that I only had liability on. They also have lent me money to get all the cars I've gotten aside the GSX. And Yes, I do pay them back.

I pay half my insurance. My parents said they'd cover liability, but that the rest is up to me.. No way am I not covering an M3. Especially with how dumb blonds in trucks like to hit me.. oh and taxi's.. oh wait and that Porter at the dealer.. and that Accord driver when it was wet out..

1) Dad: 98 740iL; Mom: 00 Oldsmobile Silhouette Premier

2) Was addicted to E39s since forever. After the Supra died I decided to look into BMWs again. Saw the E36 and fell in love, since E39s were out of my price range.

3) Which car? :D Dad bought the Supra as a gift for my 16th B-day ($3000). After that, I resold all my cars at pretty good profits, and mostly covered the price. My parents or grandparents kicked in some here and there as gifts. The Jaguar was entirely on me though from money I earned from other cars. :D

4) Yep. Car and bike is co-registered with my dad so that insurance is cheaper.

Chad when you say at good profits is that enough to cover the registration and taxes as well or do you take a hit on that. When I got my M registration and taxes was about 2500. Don't know how much of a profit you have made on each sale.

Again, depends on the car. If you search something like "Honda Supra BMW Jaguar" you'll come up with the post where I list all my cars and bikes and the sale/purchase prices. Hell, I think I listed it out specifically for YOU.

The Jaguar was 100% fully covered from the E39, including taxes, registration, and even the PPI. I actually pocketed $50 when everything is calculated. Of course....I did fly up to NorCal to buy it and drive back home, so figure another $70 for flight and $100ish for gas.

The CBR was also almost fully covered by the sale price of my old Kawi. I think I was $25 short of covering all the taxes/registration fees on it.

The rest of the cars still had a little bit I needed to chip in for taxes/registration. Some of that I paid, some of that was a gift.

I rememberd the thread where you listed it but I can't get to a lot of things right now. (I'm using the internet on my phone and its a pain in the ass to get around and use some of the features). Plus, that was like a year ago. How the hell am I supposed to remember if you made enough to cover registration and ****.
