what's the different with the 2 kinda of ecms

what's the different with the 2 kinda of ecms ecu witch ever it is. i have the green label in my 325i 5 speed and i picked one up at the junk yard with a red label ...also do we have the same motors as the e34 ..im looking for a motor to build up as im still driving my car i have the motor with the vanos how ever u spell it lol

Pre-EWS (early run e36's) and EWS (late run e36's).
I think the production split is around 6/94.

as for the e34 motor if you got a 525i motor its the same thing thats in a 325i. Im not to sure about ecu though.
