Underneath the intake box, their seems to be 2 coolant lines connected to the intake. What is it? i was taking the box of to replace a hose and broke the plastic parts connected to the 2 hoses. where can i get the part? more importantly what is it called? is it something i can bypass? anything will help. I took it to shucks, they had no idea what it was thanks................1993 325i 4 door.

It's a sensor for your air intake; if it gets too warm it allows coolant to run through the lines. If you're putting in a CAI or short ram, most people just tie it up away from everything and leave it alone.

Actually, it's the other way around. :) When the incoming air is cold, the hot coolant is allowed to circulate through the lines, which run through the throttle body. It warms the TB to warm the incoming air for better emissions. The part inside the airbox is just a basic thermostat that opens and closes the lines.

Dealer will have the part. To bypass it, you can follow the coolant lines to where they start and block them off there. If you don't want to go to that trouble, you can just get a new thermostat part and replace it.
I think the part is called the "Intake Air Temperature sensor".
