Can not Re-initialize convertible top motor of '99 323IC

I have followed the procedures for reinitialization of my '99 323IC convertible motor. I hear the hum of the motor attempting to sync, but nothing happens when I follow the procedure (holding down the button for 10 seconds with the ignition turned to KLR.) I have checked the motor and it is fully engaged into the housing. Any tips on what else to try?
