View Full Version : What would you think if you saw a 330i with ZHP wheels

Imagine the scene...you pull into a parking lot and see a "regular" 330i with Sport Package with the 18" ZHP wheels. What goes through your mind? :dunno:

Just wondering what "informed" BMW enthusiasts would think, since the general public wouldn't think twice about which wheels are on which car.

I've known that I would be buying another set of wheels since I got my car, and putting snow tires on one set.

At this point, I think I'm either getting the new 2004 xi sport package 17" wheels and putting snows on them...

...or I'm getting the ZHP wheels and putting the snows on my M68s.

From the side it might even fool you into thinking I got a ZHP. :p
(...oh, wait, they never made a Steel Gray ZHP :tsk: )

how much are they? Couldn't you get better aftermarket wheels for the same price or less? That also solves any want to be ZHP questions as well.

They would look great, be it 135s on a 330i or CSLs on an M3.

I would love to have either of those on my car. :D

I think someones trying to reinvigorate the "M" on an non-M car argument in a disguised form here. Problem is, the ZHP is only a slightly warmed over 330i, which does not even approach the stature of the "M" series Bimmers. :tsk:

The number one reason I'm sticking with OEM wheels is aesthetics. I think aftermarket wheels look great on lowered BMWs, and I'm leaving my suspension stock for the first few years.

Money no object, I'd get a set of PSS9s coilovers and BBS RS-GTs. Maybe I'll even do that in three or four years when I can justify new shocks. Right now, I don't want to throw away a perfectly good sport suspension just for looks (I only autocross/track my car a few times a year).

Thanks to all who voted. The results at this point are more positive than I thought they'd be.

When it comes to making a choice on wheels, I'm not sure it's even possible to do better than getting neutral or positive votes from nearly 4 out of 5 bimmerfesters.

We'll have to see what happens in three months when it's time to get the snow tires...

Phil . . . I was in the same boat as you and finally bought a set of Winter wheels today . . .

One major factor kept me away from ZHP wheels . . . W E I G H T !!!!

Why do I want to slow my car down with heavy wheels . . . been there, done that . . . they look great but weigh too much.

I really like those 137's they look great but your chances of finding someone who is selling them is going to be very hard . . .

I was going to go with type 44's but decided I would go for one of my favorite wheels from the E36 M3 . . . I bought a set of beautiful condition OEM M Contours size 17 x 7.5 and I am putting 235/40/17's on them all around.

The weight of the wheel is less than 22 lbs so it is a big score plus they are going to look awesome on my car. There are a ton of people selling used wheels that I have spoken to recently for very good prices . . .let me know if you are interested in some leads . . .

I agree. There's a certain "snob" element to fitting M parts to non-M cars; while I don't share this attitude with disgruntled M owners, I am able to understand why they might get upset (but then isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery?). I hope this doesn't lower itself to mere trim levels (because apart from the 10 whole bhp, the Performance Pack is basically a trim level). This would be no better than the petty mine's-better-than-yours mentality of British company car drivers in the 1970s, for whom trim level was the beginning and end of their tiny little one-upmanship world.

Aside from anything else, the "ZHP" wheels are just wheels. They're extremely heavy, too, and available on a 318d, 316i, 320d touring or 330Cd. It's BMW NA's decision to restrict wheel choices; as far as BMW is concerned, they're just wheels.

I would think they look great but I would rather buy aftermarket wheels instead.

up here in Toronto a local dealer (BMW Autohaus for anyone in TO) is doing the 135M's as a summer wheel and tire package for CAN$5300 (around $US3800). This is for a staggered set, 225/45 front and 255/40 rear (i think, correct me if i'm wrong).

lovely wheels, but damn costly.

I was quoted a price of $482 for the 18x8 wheel from my local dealer, and with 225/40-18 Yokohama ES100s all around, the whole set would be about $2,500.

Today, I was considering other options again... :tsk:

Everything from 18" Style 32 radial spoke wheels to 18" Style 71 wheels that come with the 330Ci might wind up on my car. :dunno:

I suppose I still have doubts whether the M135 wheels "belong" on my car. Since BMW has made very few "special editions" like the ZHP in the past, it's hard to draw a comparison to other models...

up in canada we don't get the ZHP package, though on 330's there is the M-Sport package, which comes with the 135Ms. Anyway, the bottom line is that i think the 135 M's are fantastic-looking wheels, and IMHO they are not linked to the ZHP/M-Sport package like M-replica rims are with M3's, so therefore i actually wouldn't be afraid to put a set on my Touring,...except for the fact that they cost a fortune. I don't think a non-Zhp/M-Sport sporting 135M's would be labelled a wannnabe, nor should they be..these are BMW upgrade wheels.
