Sorry to add another post about the HPFP, but when is it time to get the dealer to do a replacement?
Mine's been whining (or moaning) for the last 12,000 miles. I just turned 15K. I don't want to stranded with a dead engine.
My other N54 engined vehicle had all the rough idle issues, but the dealer failed, or did not want, to address the problems.
The dealer has heard this "whine" and acknowleded it was the pump but did not move forward with replacing...several thousand miles ago.
Thanks.

I'd say get it replaced while you can still get the car there. You know its going to go out at the most inconvient time for you. :)

Thanks,
The wastegate rattle is getting irritating too. I thought Audi was bad. Sheesh. I should have kept my 525xi.

I believe that unless your symptoms are accompanied by the yellow check engine light illuminating and/or the "Engine Malfunction - Reduced Power" warning message appearing on the iDrive screen, there will be no fault codes stored in the DME and the dealer will have nothing to go on when attempting to diagnose the problem.
Not sure what a HPFP whine or moaning sounds like, but I'm perplexed that if it's your HPFP and after 12,000 miles you have not had any check engine light or warning message yet.
