I tried to find an answer to this in the Wiki, but wasn't able to:

When I pickup my 2009 750Li at the Welt in August, will European map data already be pre-loaded for iDrive navigation usage?

I read elsewhere that someone was asked to pay $165? Is that arranged by my CA here? Do you have to buy a DVD prior and load it yourself? Or do they do that on the spot for you at the Welt?

At BMWUSA.com the FAQ says the following:

Will my Navigation system work in Europe?

If you have ordered Navigation on your new BMW, beginning with 2009 3 Series and 1 Series models, Europe maps will be automatically loaded when you pick up your car in Munich, therefore the navigation disk is not necessary. For all other models you will continue to order the DVD in advance of travel. Please call 888-628-6277 to order the DVD, the cost per DVD is $165, plus shipping and tax and will be delivered directly to your specified U.S. address.

To me... that seems to imply it should be included automatically at no cost.

Second question... when I pick it back up at the dealer in the US, will the US map data be loaded for free by the dealer automatically?

Yes it will. All hard drive based systems get the European maps for ED at no additional charge. Dropped a line in the wiki to that effect.

Yes it will. It's part of the vehicle preparation process before re-delivery.

Did you read the question in the FAQ that states

If I have a navigation system in my car, can I purchase a DVD for Europe? The answer is right there.

The answer you quote is obsolete (why there are two questions in the FAQ that say the same thing is beyond me) and I have just dispatched a note to BMW telling them it needs to be deleted.

Just checked: it IS in the wiki!

Cars equipped with the 4th generation iDrive system (Only one cd/dvd slot) utilize a hard drive for storage of the map data and they will be loaded with the EU maps from the factory.

Did you just add the line I quoted? Very speedy!

Update: BMW's e.d. manager just advised she is fixing the problem on the FAQ.

Thanks to Hayden for indirectly pointing out the contradiction.

Great, thanks. Now I just need to be sure I have my iPod Y adapter and iPhone 3G snap-in and I'm set!

btw, this was the reason for my question:

(he says he was asked to pay for the EU maps... but may have not even checked to see they were already there)
