I have a 2006 X3 w/ DSP and Sat radio prep/pre-wired. I would like to add an aftermarket satellite radio unit. I was going to do this sirius setup (http://www.tss-radio.com/bmw-kenwood-sirius-tuner-package-p-6650.html) but after I ordered the PIE adapter I read on the page that it will not work on DSP radio's. My radio says "BMW Business" on the unit.

I would like to use the shark-fin antenna and install a sirius kenwood unit in the trunk so that I may control the Sat radio from the steering wheel.

I looked in the back compartment and I only see the bluetooth computer and what I believe is the DSP amp. I cannot find the 3-pin and 6-pin connectors back there. Are these connections used by the DSP? and some adapter is needed?

Will I be able to connect the Sirius unit in the back compartment to use w/ the steering wheel controls? If not, will XM direct work?

I know this question has been asked before but I was unable to find a post for someone who does have DSP and Sat Radio Prep. Can someone tell me what I can do to get Satellite radio in the car? (I do not want to have this installed by the dealer, they quoted me $800).

Thanks.

I'm new to the X3, but I have been looking at how to integrate iPod harness to the radio for similar reasons you are looking at Satellite radio. Here is what I have figured out so far that might help you.

I have an 06 with the Sat prep and DSP. The pre-wired harness is located under the front console bin, as discussed in this recent thread (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=375352). My understanding is that on a DSP stereo you will be looking for the 6-pin connector and a coax, not a 3-pin. Some aftermarket companies I looked at made you buy a DSP adapter harness for about $70, some had units that wired up directly to the DSP-style harness. I believe I have seen both Sirius and XM units that will integrate. I have also seen iPod control units that included an auxillary audio port that allows you to plug in another audio source, such as a portable sat radio unit, to play through the stereo, but no integration with the buttons/display.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing - I'm sure there are others who are looking to do the same thing.

Bavarian Soundwerks has XM available for X3 with Business Radio, DSP, and without SA693 and a selection for All Others. The price is $289.99. The BMW Sirius is $579.99 and unavailable you have to get on a waiting list:

Gotta tell you ...I had Sirius in my 330xi...thing would cut out if I went under an overpass....no buffering.
When I bought an 08 X3, it also had the aux input so I tired out Pandora radio on my Blackberry.
I will never be subscribing to Sat radio again. Pandora rocks for the music I listen to.
As the Blackberry also has an 8GB card I don't think I'll be looking for iPod integration anytime soon either.

Correction: My 2006 X3 is NOT pre-wired for Sirius, so there are no wires in the trunk side pannel. I've read that I can use an extension cable ot extend the cables that should be in the center armrest to the trunk to connect everything (3-pin & 6-pin) however, under the black tray, I see wires there, but none that are loose. Do I have to remove the console in order to be able to reach these wires?

If I don't have them for some reason can I purchase the Sirius cable from the dealer and run it from the headunit to the trunk?
