 My 2004 X5 , 51k doesn't wont to start when engine is worm. In the morning starts like champ -- few cranks and vrooooom. But after enginge warms up and car sits for 30 min - 1 hour ---- it cranks, cranks and nothing..... after 15-20 sec of cranking enging will start BUT works only like 300 RPM's .... when i'll press gas pedal it goes to normal ..... NO codes -- nothing. Car has extended warranty and BMW service can't find a reason.... they replaced fuel pump, ccv, reprogram computer...... nothing ... they contact BMW support and they don't know :dunno: great ... Any one knows what could be a reason
Thank you

I had the exact same problem. For almost a year I complained that the car had hot restart issues. Sometimes it would be long crank times but most of the time it would do exactly like your car- start and idle at 300 rpm and then if I just tapped the throttle the idle speed would jump to normal. I took it in for that complaint about 5 times over the past year. The dealer never found anything wrong. That's because the dealer works like this: we see no codes, therefore nothing is wrong with your car. Well, the nightmare finally happened. This past May, just a month past my warranty (I have a 2005 X5 3.0i sport pkg) I tried to start my car one morning and it backfired like a major explosion. Then the engine would not run. Had to be towed to the dealer. My car had a cracked intake manifold and a bad mass airflow sensor. The problem all along was the mass airflow sensor. But it does not trigger a code. BMW picked up the tab for me. All in all, BMW is customer oriented.

So press your dealer to replace the mass airflow sensor. They will resist, because if no code, they will have trouble getting their money back from BMW. But if they take it out and inspect it, hopefully they will find a problem with it. But that is for sure the problem. Don't let them blow you off until it has to be towed.

My E36 318's had very similar issues. The Mass AirFlow (MAF) Sensor is DEFINITELY a suspect. They will act very funny, much like an old carburated car with the choke stuck on.....starts great when cold but idles/starts very tough when warm.

most likely your fuel injectors are leaking down, causing a flood condition.
