View Full Version : Undoing touch up paint...?

Ok... so, I bought my new bimmer a couple days ago... on the first day driving it, someone decided to open their door and hit mine with it. They didn't dent it, but they 'cracked' the paint a little. I went to the dealer and grabbed some touch up paint.

Now, I used to do woodworking stuff a lot so if figured I could put some touch-up paint on a rub it off with my finger (so it would fill in the crack, kinda like filling cracks in wood). It seems to have come out a little bit dark (I did shake the hell out of it) and almost looks worse than when I started (considering there wasn't really any loss of paint, just a couple really small cracks... now it's just 2 little dark circles).

A couple quick questions:

Should I have just used the clear coat in an instance like that?

Is is possible to undo my DIY paint job? I would think so because the paint is likley over the existing clear coat, right?

Any advice would be appreciated!

langka will remove dried on paint

Ordered some last night after you suggested it. I assume it's pretty straightforward and easy to use?

Is the paint that you are trying to remove on the surface or embedded into the cracks of the paints surface?

minerspirts would of work. the paint you use is enamel. very easy to get off. next time get a paper towel, roll one end to a fine point. use that as a touch up brush. and don't rub it in. this paint isn't like what you use in would shop.

The stuff I'm concerned with, I believe, is surface excess
