Has anyone here had their rear windows (those with electronic window shades) tinted?

I have read on another forum that there is an issue getting the tint behind that shade component / rail, and someone claimed they had to have the door taken apart to get it done right! :yikes:

Yeah I have em on my '03 and it's perfectly fine...I took it to one of the best places in town they had no problem at all...Took them about an hour and a half to do all 4 windows and the rear window so I doubt they took my door apart lol

I owned four E65s, all with the shades, and had them all tinted with no problem. Can't say about the F01, but I wouldn't expect any different.

Since the window glass seal is sitting right behind the shades, out window tinting guy can't do it properly.
I have personally remove all door trims and seals on F01/F02s to give them more room to do it.

I stopped by a tint place this morning. The guy said he has done several F01/F02s and the trick it to remove a piece on the top of the door (when its open) to get access to the window shade area. He said they do not take the door apart.

They quoted me $300 :yikes: for top of the line 3M hyrbrid tint. (including the front windows) Sounds expensive.

That's about what mine cost (35% tint).

When you guys turn in the car at the end of the lease do you have to remove the tints?

As long as its a good tint job I think you'll be fine.

Like everyone is saying; go to a good shop, ask a lot of questions, request their best installer, and pay up. There plenty of other places to save money, I don't think this is one of them. My 02.

Nothern Virginia BMW dealerships can be pretty anal when it comes to car modification or customization during trade-in or lease return.

A bit OT, but still related in a way...my car came with "option 761 Individual Sun Protection Glazing".....which in laymans terms is: Rear Privacy Glass. You should consider this option should you want your rear windows tinted.

Not available in the US.

The S0761 Individual Sun Protection Glazing option is not offered on US models. I don't even see it on bmwusa.com but on bmw.co.uk that option is available including the following options which are not offered on US models:

-Windscreen with grey shade band
-TV function (S0601)
-Rear-seat telephone unit with cordless handset (S06NB)
-Model designation deletion
-Extended rear air-conditioning (S04NF)
-Climate Comfort laminated glass
-Rear seat entertainment - BMW Professional (S06FH) with 12" monitors
-Ondemand internet access via iDrive.

Whose idea was it to offer 8" monitors in the US instead of 12"? What a genius :D
