My uncle just bought a Titanium Grey 530iA SP/PP/Xenon yesterday, and the stealership, Century West BMW, insisted the vehicle came only with three keys (2 masters, 1 plastic.) Later, the salesperson changed his mind and said they lost it and that valet keys are useless...
 :thumbdwn:
Check the thread below for additional information on number of keys being issued these days.

Cars built after March are now being shipped with 3 keys (two remotes, one modified plastic spare/valet), while cars shipped before then have 4 (two remotes, 1 spare and 1 valet).
If his car was built in or after March, he has no ground to stand on. BMW clearly states in all literature that they are free to change the equipment of the car at their desire, and if they make a change, that's that. If you get a 3-key car, you are not entitled to a 4th key. The only way around it is to order a 4th key, and pay for it yourself. If the car came with a key and it was lost, then that is a different story.

Ah, I see BMW is working on cost savings. :p
It sounds to me like the real message here is that the salesman did not know about the change and when questioned about it, just made up something on the spot. :(

I still am not quite sure how BMW does not offer a valet key. I know that most of us wouldn't use it anyway (mine is just sitting in a private drawer), but I can think of a lot of BMW owners (stereotyping a bit) who would like to have it. I guess I am glad I got one.

The 530i was manufactured in March, not after. The plastic key can unlock the trunk and glovebox just like the master key, and unlike the new hybrid.
