Isn't it funny how they conceal the badge when it's sitting in the BMWNA lot! Do they think people will say "Gee, is that was a Lexus"?!

Looks like someone designed this car from the oscar meyer weenie dog style truck. Jeez its horrendous and the team that designed this needs to be punched in their face thousand times over for their blindness and stupidity for coming up with such an ugly shape that has no character and without any equal proportions. A kid can even do better than this!

The nicest looking parts of that car......are the wheels...the rest looks like King Kong ate a bunch of different Bimmers and sh*t this thing out.

The rear is the whole point of the "GT"! It's like saying "I love red cars, as long as they are not red". So basically, you don't like the GT then.

And the rims you can probably get on the next gen regular 5 series anyway...so what's the point of the GT? Anyone seen the pics of the new A5 sportback sedan? Way cooler than the GT.

A review by Car and Driver, the biggest BMW fanboys in the industry. Even they struggled to find great things to say about the new GT.

The only thing that grows on people is a fungus...so is the GT a fungus? And some fungus looks better than the GT:rofl:. Seriously, though, why buy this when the CLK, VW CC, A5 sportback, Panamera, etc are on the market?

My guess it will sell well. It is unique luxury that will appeal to Lexus and Honda Element buyers looking to move up. :)

thebmw

Amazingly, BMWs still sell, it seems, no matter what they put out. I didn't think the X6 would sell at all. They were having a tough time just keeping inventory. Hey, someone bought the Pontiac Aztec when it came out. So clearly, there are people which absolutely so sense of style out there! For them, let me introduce the all new 2010 BMW GT. Okay, I'm being a bit harsh;)

That car has a nice front view - and after that, it looks ridiculous. I don't know what BMW is thinking lately. Maybe it is market research: "people want big ugly cars...preferably with a Roundel" - hurts to look at it. :tsk:

This is how it always is. The character of a BMW just doesn't seem to be conveyed well in photographs.

I think a lot of people are going to buy it. Lots of soccer moms and lots of executive dads who want to impress their clients, yet still be able to haul all their kids' stuff around.

I can see people getting this over an SUV. Nicer interior, drives like a car, better gas mileage (I think), etc.

Hmm... Don't we already have something that looks exactly what you just described? Yep, the 5er Touring/Wagon!

No need for this monstrosity, BMW!

thebmw
10-08-2009, 11:03 PM
I'm not defending the 5GT, but the interior is quite different and way nicer than the current 5 series. Don't know if it will be the same as the next gen 5 series. Some people are totally put off my station wagons. So I think it will appeal to the crowd that doesn't want to be seen in a "wagon", but want versatility.

Meh.

It was a 530d GT, dark grey, cream interior.

The only positive thing that I can say is that the tail lights are huge and look cool.

Otherwise... I have no clue what the point of this thing is. :thumbdwn:

Not to mention that the guy driving it drove like a complete ass. Red light to red light like it was a drag race against me and another E60. He was going at least 90km/h in a 40km/h zone until he had to stop for the next red.

Whatever.

Which North America won't be getting anymore. Instead, you can buy the 5er GT. :tsk:

+1 - In all likelihood the 5er GT will replace the 5er touring. The touring doesn't do enough volume in the U.S. and the GT pretty much gets the same job done with the option of more luxury (the four seat version) and unique style for people who don't want an suv, but don't want a wagon either.

I think the new design team in on crack - first with the new 7 series and now this! What's with the ugly hood line going across the front. In older models they used to work the hood line down into the grill so it wouldn't be that obvious - now it just goes straight across the front of the car - ughk!!

Our local dealer just north of Orlando is "unveiling" the the GT tomorrow. I assume these are hitting the ground all over the US (apologies if they have been here for weeks already). If I get by, I will snap a few pictures and post. I must admit, I am in the market for a 5er in about 9 months. I don't like the pictures, but I am intrigued. Kind of in an X6 kind of way.

Edit--> Apologies, did not get by dealer on Sat, so no pics.

Made it to the local "unveiling" in my area.... In addition to the 550GT, they had an X5M, X6M and 750iX. All pretty cool looking cars, of course targeted to their respective audiences. The Missus, who was adamant that a 535 Touring would not be seen in the driveway, was pretty enamored of the 550GT. Anyway, a few pictures of the new model....
