I understand that the filter is supposed to be changed every 15K. My car gets driven only about 4K a year and garaged all the rest of the time. It will take me another 2 years before I cross the threshold of $15K so I thought to change it proactively.
What are the signs of a 'bad' microfilter? I didn't put the last one in (it was part of service in 2007) so I don't know what condition the previous one was in and how a brand new one should look like.
Also, any thoughts about a less than clean smelling a/c vent system? Is that related to the micro filter or is that some other issue that needs a different resolution. I realized that this summer after I started to use the a/c there was a mild odor. And it hasn't left the car. Its not as strong as the one that I got in my 2009 5 series in the first season of a/c use (had to get that taken care of at the dealer b/c it was under warranty) but still is fairly noticeable.
