View Full Version : Was experimenting with my UUC Knob yesterday...

I discovered that if I raise it about an inch over the standard height, shifting is MUCH, MUCH smoother. Obviously, my priorities are not necessarily the same as anyone else's, but even slightly balky shifters annoy me. With the knob up high, the transmission almost sucks itself into gear.
(Stock shift knob height is about half an inch higher than the normal height of the UUC shift knob)

All in all, :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Thereabouts. I'll measure it properly sometime.

I've heard that if you play with your knob too much you'll go blind....;)

...now, where did I put my glasses, I'm totally blind without them.....:D

Wouldn't that increase the distance of the throws?

Yes, it does lengthen the throw. It all depends on what you want.

This is extremely good inforrmation for me. I'm doing ED on a 325i in June. I'm also 6'9" and don't fit in the car (or any car) perfectly. One issue I have is the way I tilt back the shifter is too low. I've been trying to determine if there is a way to increase the height of the shifter. Which UUC shifter do you have?

Do you also have the short shift kit? (I believe the "short" is in reference to the throw, not the height)

No, I have the stock shifter. Just the knob you can see in my sig, the RK Magnum SS. Using the side screw, I can choose a height.

Out of curiosity, did you try the Subaru WRX? I know it's a small car, but it has a MASSIVE amount of headroom.

I actually do like the Subaru but I can't resisit the 325i. I did have to give up on the sport package as the sport seats cost a few inches in headroom. I can't live w/o the sunroof either.

I'll probably get the short shift kit and the same knob that you have. BTW, in the pics there is a cover of the knob. What is that? Some sort of wintertime cover?

I got my girlfriend to crochet me a shift knob cozy for the winter time. :)
