Recommendations, Please

I am interested in purchasing a second-hand BMW. I particularly love the BMW's from the 1980's & 1970's. I LOVE the body designs!

I will be using the car to commute daily in an urban city.

Which BMW do you recommend for me? Also, how much should I allow for my budget? Again, I want to purchase a BMW from the 1980's or 1970's.

Please advise.

If it's just commuting, a 325e isn't the most racing oriented of the BMWs, but it's fuel efficient and torquey. Good city car (my 'new' commuter).

It cost $1000, but I had about $3000 total in it when it was done. I'd look at $3000 or less for one in very good condition, complete maintenence history, etc.
