Any one knows when 2010 will start into production and any changes or new colors?

Why are they putting the 2010's into production only 4 months from the 2009 release date of 5/9/2009? That is going to upset every 2009 owner who will have a year old model less than 4 months after owning the car.

Well.... then BMW can take my 2009 Z4 and shove it up their lilly white A$$, as far as I'm concerned. I'm thinking that's probably big enough font to get the point accross

But any other 2009 model that you would have purchased on 5/9/09 will be a year old model in another month when all the other 2010 models are out from every manufacturer? Your point makes no sense, if you bought it in May you should have expected that the 2010 models would not be that far away. Do you want them to keep building 2009 models until May 2010 so that your car is not a year old until then? :dunno:

"Keep building 2009 models until 2010", you asked? Yes. That's my point.
To clarify:
The 2009 Z4 model year has been out for ONLY 4 months and SOON they are going to produce 2010's.
2009 models are released by any car mfg anytime from mid 2008 to mid 2009. The EXPECTATION is that they continue to produce that same model year for 12 months from the point they began produding it.
That way the people that purchased that model year, EARLY in the model year cycle, can at least drive the car for several months before it is "last year's" model. It doesn't matter what time it is in the CALENDAR year, as you stated. What time it is in the calendar year has nothing to do with it. That got thrown out the window the day way way back when car Mfg started producing the next calendar year's model in the mid part of the current year. So, to say that it is mid 2009 and we should "expect" a mfg to start building 2010's is incorrect.
Quite the contrary. The expectation is that they build whatever model year it is, for 12 months.
So, this notion of building the 2009's for ONLY 4 months is total BS. For whatever reason, BMW feels it is in their best interest to push the 2010's out only 4 months after the 2009 debut. Basically, what they figured was, ahhhh forget the 2009 owners, let's do what it our best interest.
.....and for that reason they can now take my car and shove it where the German sun don't shine much.
Where this really matters is when I sell the car. A 2009 owner goes to sell the car in 2012 and value at that time is based on it being a 3 year old car. A 2010 owner goes to sell their car at the same time in 2012 and they get to sell a 2 year old model, valued higher. So, someone that gets an early 2010 has had their car basically the same amount of time as me, give or take 2 months, and I get hit with an extra YEAR (12 MONTHS) of depreciation. BS
If I had known for one second BMW was going to pull this crap, I definitely would have waited for a 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does this make more sense now?

From the practical standpoint, there's virtually no difference in the 2009 and 2010 model years. It's not like they stop the assembly line. What's really different? The owners manual, maybe some parts are slightly different for the new model year and that's about it. BMW isn't like Detroit where they have to make some change every year or people will think something is wrong.

Buy (no lease)
Somehow, I don't feel like I'm in the boat alone.
It seems if this is something BMW does from time to time, as the other poster stated, then KBB and Edmunds might depreciate the 2009 as a 2009 1/2. If this is the case, that would remedy the issue.

There are 100's of websites that provide all the details about the "2010" Z4, with a release date of May 2009, or spring 2009 or somewhere's in that timeframe. The same sites quote prices and specs and options for what they THINK is going to be released as a "2010" car. In actuality, they are providing all the details on what we all know is the 2009 Z4. So, these are all the online magazines and car experts that actually believed the car would debut as a 2010 and there would never be a 2009 model.
Other web sites got it right, quoted the May 2009 release dates, MSRP prices, specs and correctly quoted it as a 2009 model.
If you can send the link to the web site that even hints at fact the Z4 would debut as a 2009 in May 2009, then 4 months later be retired when BMW begins productoon of the 2010's, that would be great. Then I'll know I misssed it by not looking hard enough.

Not trying to get on either side of the argument, but when I first started looking at buying a Z4, I didn't know anything about the e89. I was familar with the 1st gen Z4 roadster and coupe and assumed that BMW was still making them up through the end of the 2009 model year.
Then I actually got a brief glimpse of an e89 Z4 on a dealer's back lot, didn't really know what it was, and assumed it was an old Z8. While google'g for Z4's the new model turned up and I realized that car was really an '09 Z4, but auto journalist kept referring to them as the "New 2010 Z4". Until reading this thread I wasn't aware that the model was a mid-year release.
BMW may have done a netter job of rolling it out because I think a lot of journalist were confused about it. I'm guessing the switch has more to do with moving the manufacturing facilities from SC, US to German. I understand they needed to make room for expanded SUV manufacturing in SC.

I just don't get why you are getting so heated about this? I've seen this happen over and over again with BMW and other manufacturers too. :dunno: There is no golden rule that a model year has to be 12 months long and that they have to offer a new model for a full 12 months before changing the model year. :dunno:

I chuckle in reading this thread. Of course you could wait longer for the 2011s, 2012s, 2013s, and this is true of many other items we purchase.
Look at technology. Your computer will have less RAM, a smaller hard drive and cost more that the one produced next month or near Christmass or in the spring. But, if you wait, you don't get the advantages the current technology currently available Iimagine no access to BIMMERFEST because you are waiting for the cheaper, better computer). As we get older, we realize the importance of time. Living now and enjoying your 2009 is worthwhile unless you are willing to wait (indefinitely). Some of us can wait others cannot.

Maybe said another way, if BMW was a routine as US manufactures about model rollouts, you could have made a choice: 1) buy a '09 and get 4 months worth of use of the car before it depreciated, 2) waited and got an '10 where you would have somewhat more value at some future point in time.
I faced that same delima several years ago when I opted to factory order a car. There was a backlog and it arrived mid-way through the model year. I knew what I was in for when I bought it, but the psychological trauma you have suffered is incalculable.:D
Blue, it's time for some more large fonts and colorful metaphors - I'm bored.

You know it's interesting that you say that because I've always been a person to drive my cars until, as you put it, the wheels fall off. I do 90 percent of my own maintenance/repairs, etc. (that will change with my new Z4).
But I've noticed there are a lot of bimmers out there with very low miles. Assuming a lot of people are leasing them, that could account for it. But on the other hand, there are many out that are 2 to 4 years old with very low mileage. Certainly far less than the average. That struck me as being odd, because I assumed that most people were holding on to them, but it actually would appears otherwise.

If they bump the price of the 2010 up and don't offer the low finance rate right away, then these 2 factors will mitigate the extra depreciation with a 2009.
One good thing is that in 3 years I have a low miles 2009 and the people that took the earliest deliveries of the 2010's, if they drive the same miles as I did, will have a higher mileage 2010. One other factor that mitigates the depreciation.
Given the choice though, I would have waited the extra 2-3 months and got the 2010. It is still a better situation. I use the word "better" loosely, as we all know cars are not investments,. The name of the game is figuring out the best way to lose as little money as possible on the whole transaction.
That said, it takes nothing away from the enjoyment of driving the car. There T AMX I threw in some big font for you. :)

Very good point, however it applies to a situation where a person just bought the last leftover 2008 Z4 in April 2009. Then 2 weeks later learns for the first time that they redisigned the car bumper to bumper and released a brand new model for 2009. Now, theres a situation where waiting 2 weeks would have really made a difference, from a technology standpoint.
The 2009 Z4 vs 2010 Z4 will be virtually the same vehicle from a technological point. Thus, the source of my unpleasantry the other day was not based on missing out on any new technology from 2009 to 2010. It was strictly a dollars and sense thing.
What I have seen, is that a large portion of the Z4's are leased. If you look at ebay or autotrader, you will find a lot of 2006 and 2007's for sale out there. The 2003,2004, and 2005's are much lower. There are a lot of people out there that scoop them up after the 3 year lease. Usually low mileage, maintained, and still having a year's warranty left.
These folks tend to keep them longer, hence the low number of available vehicles for those years.
That is what I did, at half of the original MSRP.

BMW could've done what they did in '96 with the 5-series. There was no 1996 fiver. They sold the 1995 model year E34 series until spring of '96, then after a short break for retooling, they started delivering 1997 model year E39 series in summer of '96. I got the first manual transmission E39 in town, and still drive and love it every day!
