Is it worth it? I have the standard audio system right now... haven't heard the hi-fi, but I'm interested in upgrading... thoughts?

If you have a cabriolet, then no. I think the standard system is sufficient for most folks.
I tend to drive with the windows down, so the wind and road noise kinda makes the quality less important. If you're parked and stopped with the windows up, it is a really nice upgrade.

There's no way for anyone to say whether you would think it's worth the extra money. Either you should go to a dealership and hear one or try to get to a meet where other people will have them (try 1Addicts to look for regional meets). The premium hi-fi is definitely an improvement, but how much is rather subjective and the big question is whether you would be better off just finding a high-quality shop that will put in an even better system for roughly the same amount of money.

I have to differ about a cabrio..i feel an upgrade is essential with the top down. but you need to listen & decide.

I dont like aftermarket audio products in my cars, so to me absolutly its worth it

I haven't made the comparison in the 1-Series but it's definitely worth it in the 3-Series. The base system sounds a little weak and flat to me after having the Logic7. Still, the Logic7 is merely decent - it doesn't 'sparkle' like a Mark Levinson system but it adds a lot of needed punch. The system is so... German. Tonally accurate but just not that much fun.
Premium hi fi is absolutely worth it, IMHO.

for what its worth i have the logic 7 in my mb but i regularly use the standard mode as well when i want a cleaner & more accurate soundstage. upgrades are worth it it if if you area music "nut" & its a leased vehicle in most cases or if in a lower end car

I have the base system in my '08 'vert and think it sounds great. If I were ordering a '10 model I would absolutely order the HiFi since BMW downgraded the standard system to the 8 speaker setup with no subs.

Does this mean the '08 'vert has the upgraded system as stock? (I'm confused as to what the differences are exactly)
My car does not have the premium hi-fi system and sounds great.
Thanks

Your car has the 10-speaker system then. The Hi-Fi system has 13 upgraded speakers, more power, Logic7 sound processing, and an equalizer.
For 2010 they downgraded the 10-speaker system to 8. The Hi-Fi option is still the same 13-speaker upgrade.

I'm pretty sure the 1 only has 10 speakers even with the Hi-Fi upgrade, the differences are in the amp power, larger subs, DSP, etc.. It's a different system than the 13 speaker Logic 7 setup in the 3 series.
Basically there are 4 levels of audio in the 1 series worldwide, in '08 we got the top 2 (2nd best as standard, best as optional). I'm not sure the base 10 speaker stereo is still available at all for 2010, but I think the Hifi upgrade becomes more compelling with the base stereo downgrade.

I stand corrected. I'm certainly glad I ordered the Hi-Fi system, but now I know one reason why the 3-Series system sounds better.

sorry but how can you check if the car has premium audio or not? We did order the upgraded audio, but I really don't think the system sounds good compare to mye90 325i with logic 7. The system from e90 just provide a better full frequency sound versus the one from 1 series is kinda weak. This is why I'm suspecting they might messed up the order and shipped the wrong car? For the record, it does have equalizer and music/cinema option and shows "professional" on the head unit

The base system def. needs an upgrade. Unfortunately, the "hi-fi" upgrade is lame. IMO it is not worth the money. However, if you don't want to do something aftermarket, it's your only choice.

As discussed above, no the 1's premium audio option does not sound as good as the 3-Series'. Since you have the EQ and the DSP functions, you do have the upgrade. The base system has an analog amp not capable of the DSP modes.

I have the Logic 7 on my '08 135 cab and feel it is a must when driving 80mph with the top down. I can't say it is the best high end car audio I have heard, but like it was mentioned before I do not like the look of aftermarket parts on the car!
