cold start surge and warm start low idle issues(need help) ASAP i need this fixed!!

hey guys i have a 1981 320i 1.8 liter engine and upon starting from cold the engines idle surges to about 2000 rpms and then once the engine warms up (standard engine temp.) and and the car is turned off and thenn once turned on with the engine being warm the engines idle is about 500 rpms and goes lower and will just cut out
i have been dealing with this problem for awhile now and i need this fixed ASAP

I am also having this problem. Did you ever figure out what was causing it? I figure something in my valves is awry, I'm going to get it tuned up whenever is next convenient for me, but for now I just adjusted the idle screw so the thing idles higher and doesn't cut out when I come to a stop sign... Obnoxious, but drivable
