I came accross something I thought is quite unusual and just wondered if this has happened to anyone else.

I picked up my Z4 in July and completely love it. The only odd thing was the ride was very hard. I remember test driving two different Z4's back in May before deciding to purchase and neither one felt like this. Several weeks later I stopped in at an autoX to see what this car will do. Now alot of people increase their tire pressures to change the handling characteristics of their cars. I took a tire pressure gauge to my tires after they had cooled off to double check what they were to give me a baseline to start with. Lo and behold, three of the tires were at 42psi and the fourth was at 43! I grabbed a second gauge and that one showed the same. Checking the door sticker indicates the pressures should be 33 for the front and 36 for the rear.

I advised the dealer about this and they were surprised and also told BMW NA when they called for the Owner Satisfaction Survey and they were a little taken aback.

Anyone else come across something like this? When delivering a new car, who is responsible for inflating the tires or checking them before delivery?

At California Speedway my tires were reading in the low 40s even when the car sat for an extended period of time (2 hours). Initial reading in the morning was 36psi.

If you were at an auto-x and after a few runs and some time to cool off, the tires are still reading high it's nothing out of the ordinary. Rubber is a poor conductor of heat and it does take a long time to cool the air inside the rubber off. I wouldn't be surprised that, if left along, the tire pressure would read ~36psi the next morning.

Those tire pressures seem a bit low for the track. Mine were at that level and the car just didn't feel right. What were they hot? I was at 44 in the front and 45 in the rear after each session. The tires felt allot better with those higher pressures.

When I picked up my 2001 X5, the tires were at 50 psi all around. Didn't notice the ride was stiffer at first, but it made a difference once I brought it down to 34/36. I read somewhere that the tires are inflated higher than normal for shipping so that they don't develop flat spots. The dealers are supposed to deflate to proper psi.

I picked up my car at the start of Aug, and didn't think about checking the pressure, until I started reading some of these postings.

Got a good meter and discovered that all 4 tires were low, all had around 27psi !!! I was shocked, esp as I had asked the dealer if thay had been checked etc.

And no the new meter was not faulty....

put in high pressure..i put 46lbs..then it decreased to 36lbs..and i hit a pothole it damaged my rim...so...put in at least 43 to 46lbs....to protect your low profiels...if high profiles..then 33 to 38....

TRUST ME ON THIS...
