Exterior Rattle When I go over a Bump

Whenever I drive over a bump, manhole cover, or even an expansion joint; I always hear this faint rattle coming from the rear of the vehicle (passenger's side). It almost sounds like someone just dropped some chains or a bag of wrenches. Has anyone had any experience with this? My Volvo S60 used to rattle whenever a strut bushing was out, but it sounded more like a knock and less metallic.

Could be a good time to do a routine lowering of the spare wheel and check for any stones that have lodged in the tray or wheel itself.

Other than that, the jack may not be tightly anchored in the cargo area - the rubber cords that retain it might degrade over time.
