I got two "master keys", but no small plastic key described in the manual. The service manager says that key has been discontinued, for 2004.
Odd to discontinue the plastic key? Was it being lost or never used by customers? Maybe it is a back door for theft?

If that's true, they're really cutting back on keys. First it was the valet key, now it's the emergency spare key. Next thing you know, you'll only be getting one key.

:dunno: I got a plastic key with my '04. Methinks that the dealer is not being entirely truthful with you.

You guys are being ripped off. :thumbdwn:
According to the manual and video you should get 4 keys.
2 master keys, 1 valet and 1 plastic wallet key.
I got a CPO and I got all 4

'04's lost the valet key, It's "supposedly" incorporated into the plastic key :dunno: I got 2 masters and a plastic at pickup. I wish I had a REAL valet key for when my car goes in for service.
really? they got rid of valet key? that's interesting... but you should not valet your BMWs anyway, so that's a good move...

Talk to the dealer, they were keeping the pastic key for me as a service in case I lost my normal keys, I have it now.
The valet key is gone.

I got two masters and a valet key (no electronic unlocking). I'd be happier with the little handleless metal one that I could stick in my wallet for safekeeping.
Of course, who knows what screwy things happen with ED.

I want a valet key that will keep the engine from breaking 3k rpm. That'd be the perfect key for handing the car off for a valet or service.

What? I hadn't heard that one before. So, did you have to ask for it or what? I think they are full of it, but I could be wrong.
And as for the CPO dude, of course you got 4 keys, you got a used car. It's been common knowledge for a while that the valet key was discontinued this year. Luckily, I got mine.

Won't stop some knucklehead from putting an extra 100 miles on your car given the opportunity. I try to avoid valet whenever possible. I have been 100% successful so far, but I did go to a restaurant where valet was required. Took wife's car instead. :p

I'd say a key that keeps the car under 25mph is more effective.
