View Full Version : Neg camber and rear sagging

I have the negative camber increasing and the rear seems to be sagging. The headlights are pointing too high now. It's my wife's car so I don't drive it much and just caught this.

The car has springs with no self leveling.

Anyone having similar issues with their X5? Any thoughts or experiences with this would be appreciated.

Thought it might be shocks loosing pressure, but I believe these have low pressure shocks in the rear so I'm not sure if it would have much effect if the pressure dropped. I will pull the shocks today.

Also I'm sitting at the tire store getting new shoes put on as I write this...in case you notice the belts showing.

At 46k miles my X5 has some but not as pronounced as that. Better get a 4 wheel alignment for those new tires asap. Maybe when they do the alignment they will identify any parts that need replacing. I'm due for new tires too and plan to get an alignment as well. Except for the negative camber at 46k miles, my tires have worn quite evenly. I plan to go to a good frame shop, never the dealer. I let a dealer do an alignment on my wife's car once- ruined a good set of expensive Michelins.

I am more worried about the sag than the alignment. The headlights are the indicator for the sagging.

Pulling the shocks now to see if they are degassed. Need to do the rear brakes anyway. Going with Brembo rotors and Hawk pads.

Have you inspected your springs? I've seen springs break before where one of the spirals break off. Your shocks have nothing to do with the ride height of your car; they are dampers, they do not provide support. However, it's odd to have both break at the same time. Typically, there's a catalyst like oversized wheels rubbing against the spring or rust. Given your narrow tires and location, neither should be an issue.

I am having the same problem on a 2007 X5 4.8 with 20" wheels and Dunlop MAXX tires. The entire inner shoulder of both rear tires are bald and showing metal. I noticed that the rear tires are tilted outwards similar to almost all X5's, but are $450 tires supposed to wear out in under 10,000 miles??? Any suggestions? Seems crazy.

I just took my X5 in this past week for a 4 wheel alignment and new tires at 46k miles. The OEM tires were down to the wear bars and were worn pretty evenly. The back wheels looked a little too tilted when I took my car in but not as much as in the pix above. At this local place a 4 wheel alignment is $50. They are competent, I took my wife's previous car there before. They gave me a print out report of the before measurements, specification, and after measurements. I was surprised to learn the back wheels were only slightly out while the front wheels were out more. I replaced the Michelins with a set of Dunlops. I liked the Michelins just fine- I just wanted to try the Dunlops because I liked them on my 3 Series that I had prior to this SAV. The Dunlops have a softer, sticker compound so I know they will wear faster. I prefer grip over durability because I live in the Smokies and drive on hilly, curvy roads- fast.

have you sorted this?your rear tires looked pretty dangerous in terms of wear level
