I searched this forum and the DIY forum and could not find a DIY on the water pump. I have changed a fair number of these and it does not look that difficult even on this car. But was curious if there were any special things or tricks that one should know.

Same here. I was looking for the same detail. Have a 2002 745iL and it sounds
as if the bearing is making noise from the pump. Figured I change it out before
it becomes a bigger problem.

Any tips or shop manual details would be appreciated.

Thanks

I just replaced my water pump on my 2002 745i. The only problem I ran into was getting the bottom bolt of the pump back in. There is a notch in the tranny pulley, that makes you think you can get the bolt in thru there, but you can't. I tried for 2 hours. You can try to knock it in, but your pump is aluminum, you crack it your f_ _ _ _ _! I finally had to grind that bolt down about 1/16 of an inch so it would fit behind the pulley and slide into home plate!

You are supposed to remove the pulley.
