Whew. Between planning for the France trip with my Mom, which came shortly after the France trip with my Dad and then catching up with work projects (you know, taking 20 days off in one summer is a lot, especially for Americans!) I have neglected my photos from the Normandy trip.

The Paris pics are not actually fully sorted out but I hope to have them done this week.

These are not from my BMW trip, they are just photos taken in France.

A few from Fougeres:

Our day driving along the Loire:

As an aside, my parents are not divorced - I do get asked that when I talk about the separate trips, haha. Also, my Dad was three years old on D-Day.

Why thank you!

I am not too far away from putting up the Paris ones. Provence will take a while yet... (halfway there, but still, a lot..)

Beth,

Great photos. Saw others on your gallery as well and all made me want to back on vacation. :)

Your note on the Tour de France reminded me of how we got hooked watching. Happened to catch on TV 5-6 years ago and have been followers since. Went to see Lance in Saint-Etienne in 2005 in what was then his 7th tour win and "last career timed trial"; that is, until he came back this year.

Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you Via! I'm finally getting through most of the photos. I put Paris up today as well. It was a beautiful day outside, but, I am SICK SICK SICK so I spent it watching Top Gear and also sorting my photos from the summer.

Viewing it live is such an exciting experience. They go by so fast though. I would love to take one July off and use it to either follow the Tour, or, somehow get on board to be a volunteer - get to not only follow them but really be on the inside (if anyone reading this knows how to get an "in" on that, I'd be much obliged. I'm not joking!)

If anyone is interested, most (not all) of my trip report is online now.

If you want to read to the end, I'd say give it another week, tops, and I will have finished it and put it and the other photos on my blog. The photos are on flickr, at any rate.

Beautiful, beautiful photos and a great blog. We are doing our second ED in July and will be leaving out of Paris. Plans are to spend some time at Normandy and also see Mont St. Michel spending the balance of our time in Paris. Your blog will be a great resource for some of the things we want to see. Thanks for spending the time to provide the ED Community with your experiences.

I've been watching the Tour live off and on since 98. The first time I went, I went with a tour group, we rode part of all the stages from Genoble to Paris, usually the last 50 miles of each days stage. We did Alpe d'Huez, the Col de Madeleine and rode on the Champs-Élysées without any cars in sight! Other times I've ridden up the Ventoux and the Tourmalet and the Cret de Chatillon in Annecy that gave a great view of Mont Blanc.

Now I just pick out a few stages and bring a picnic, set up like the locals with a some bread cheese and wine and watch the race come through. Your right, it goes by fast!

This summer I saw the Montpellier team time trial and watched a stage in Baux en Provence.

Here's a few pics-

Good man, all the way up to mount Ventoux. I think I would have the chance to check it out this coming ED.

Thanks for the compliments!

Glad this is helpful. It's not done, so come back later - this weekend it should be finished.

I will later write up the Tour de France trip I did in July (two trips to France in 2009). I'll post the photos, too.

We tried to drive up Mont Ventoux the day before the stage - fuhgeddaboutit. We gave up partway through, used our handy dandy map and found a back road off the mountain and off we went to Sault. Lots and lots of people, cars, general mayhem.

This is not an ED report, btw....

Nice photos! I notice your obvious love for flowers and I'm assuming you know this but, for those who don't, certain villages in France are designated as "most beautiful villages of France" in some measure by virtue of the quality and quantity of the floral arrangements in the village. These villages have a sign as you enter proudly calling attention to their designation.

You can see a map and a list of these at:
