how it compares to the standard steel as far as dings, stonechips, etc are concerned. Will it be worse or better? :dunno: I feel, after reading the latest BMW magazine on the technology of bonding the Al and steel with a special adhesive, that the bond will hold up - but how will it do after many years? :thumbdwn: :dunno: Anyone have experience with the DeLoren cars? I understand their sheetmetal was all aluminum.

Audi has done it for couple of years with no problems. Good body shops already have equipment to make aluminum chassis repairs, the only issue is how expensive body panels would be in case they need replacement, something that BMW supposedly addressed.

Actually, DeLoreans were stainless steel.

Aluminum cars that I can think of:
Lotus Elise
Audi A8
Audi A2
Ferrari 360 Modena
Acura NSX
Jaguar XJ8 (the new one)
Ferrari Maranello (Outer panels only)
Ferrari 456 (outer panels only) not 100% sure on this one.

There are various other cars with an Al hood and/or trunk lid.

Sure was. My uncle owned one for many years. As a kid I loved it!

Yeah, DeLorean fans are pretty diehard.

I don't know if this is true or not but I've heard to freshen up the surface they use steel wool. :yikes: Ha, forget Zaino.
